many gay men do not personally take offense to this use of the term.
what is an acceptable replacement adjective?
what is an acceptable replacement adjective?
Was it ever NOT allowed?? link...
What's so important in using it?
I don't know any gay men who are offended by that term, only lesbians seem to want a special designation, and sometimes get offended over being called gay, which is a different thing entirely. I'm only offended by one gay related term, and it's the bundle of sticks one that starts with an F.
see, they're called rights because I don't have to justify them.
Do you have a justification to take them away?
I have received 2-3 infractions for use.
the free speech issue is where it's really rubbing me
You are on a Private Website, you don't have Rights here.
Moot
I disagree. Hate speech is a long way from using the term 'gay' to describe something. As such, it should be allowed

Gay means HAPPY also,i think it should depend on how its used in a postsoccerballtux said:many gay men do not personally take offense to this use of the term.
Just use a different word. FFS this is FWP.
Using a sexually charged word like that in a derogatory manner would not be the same thing as using the word to describe someone as being gay. Were you using it in a derogatory manner?
Imbecile youths often think that frequently using that term (and others) to describe anything they don't like shows how cool they are, when nothing can be further from the truth. I would sincerely hope that most thoughtless, bullying kids would outgrow this stage at some point. And just reading the news you can probably see those same bullies doing far worse than just name calling.
To recap: Using a term like gay to talk about homosexuals would be OK, but using gay to demean, belittle or just insult someone is not an acceptable use.
Perhaps you could improve your vocabulary beyond that of a sixth grade boy. At which point you might find an entire thesaurus worth of adjectives more appropriate for conveying whatever emotion you're experiencing than prepubescent playground insults.
not in a sexually derogative manner, simply in a 'that sucks' manner. which is interesting, because if the gender of the thing you're referring to is masculine, that too would be gay by implication. I'm not sure if that's where the negative connotation comes from regard 'sucks' though.
I don't usually use it against any person, gay or straight, either-- but to describe sub-par situations
I have used the term "gay" many, many times on this forum.
I have never used it as a negative term. Some people are gay. That doesn't make them bad people. Me saying that someone is gay is in no way a negative thing.
However you wanting to use it solely as a negative term should show you why you aren't allowed to use it. We have more than a few gay members here and they are nicer and offer more to this forum than 90% of the straight members.
So to make this nice and simple: gay is a not a negative word. You chose to use it as a negative word. You are not mature enough to use the word.
The word 'gay' isn't disallowed. Insulting other members is disallowed.ok, can you answer the original question?
