I don't think Pringles are real potato chips...

For years I've not thought much about the Pringles cans as I put them in my basket. Just noticed they were relatively cheap (only $1 or $1.25 generally). But the other day I was looking at the can, and I noticed it said "potato CRISPS". Why crisps and not "chips"? I don't think they are potato chips, or else it would say so. But what are they exactly then? Should I be paying more for real potato chips? I assume they would be healthier for you.

Thanks.

They're basically potato mush that's molded into the shape of a "chip". Pay more for "real" potato chips if you prefer their taste or texture, otherwise who cares which particular sub-variety of junk food you buy?

Why would you assume that?

It's starchy carbs and salts, the original form and post-processing form don't really matter that much.

Nothing on the package said they were potato chips. It would be unlawful for them to say they were. If you were at all uncertain though, they also include an ingredient list which is also there by law.

Mcdonalds has the only good fries from the places we have (Mcd/BK/TB/KFC/Wendys/Harveys/AW) , the rest are horrible (BK/KFC/TB having the worst by far)

Track down a five guys if you ever get a chance, they're on point. They also give you like two entire potatoes if you order a small, so you get quantity and quality.

French Fries are overrated anyhow. If they're not smothered in gravy & curds, I'm barely interested.

We had a poutine bar at our wedding. Epic.

I was just talking about the battered fries aspect. Battered fries are good.
Of the options you have listed there, McD's & Wendy's make acceptable fries.

Also, Taco Bell has fries there? I think I remember them testing them here... they may still have those garbage fiesta potatoes or whatever. Those were terrible.

I'm gonna disagree with you on battered fries, i don't like them at all. You never had the fries supreme at Taco Bell? All the stuff on top hides their horrible fries

Why crisps and not "chips"?

do you even wiki bro?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pringles

They were originally known as "Pringles Newfangled Potato Chips", but other snack manufacturers objected, saying Pringles failed to meet the definition of a potato "chip". The US Food and Drug Administration weighed in on the matter, and in 1975, they ruled Pringles could only use the word "chip" in their product name within the following phrase: "potato chips made from dried potatoes".[14] Faced with such an unpalatable appellation, Pringles eventually opted to rename their product potato "crisps" instead of chips.

If we have a "renewal of vows" ceremony then I'm going to have La Banquise cater a poutine bar for us. And it will be flanked by at least one whole hog BBQ by Pappy's Smokehouse, I don't give a damn it costs like $2 grand.

It doesn't seem like the sort of thing I'd have ordered. Poutine aside, I'm generally not a fan of things on fries since they almost inevitably destroy any crispiness in the fries.

You shouldn't need to add breading to your french fries to make them crispy though, it just soaks in more grease i've found

No, you shouldn't, but I don't care whether it has breading/batter so long as it's tasty and crispy!
