I don't shake hands a lot

I have a tendency to look at the handshake as I'm doing it instead of eye contact with whom I'm shaking hands with. I noticed that yesterday at the gym after having a meeting with one of the sale rep about changing my membership status. I wonder if I look like a dork when I do that.

That's my reason as well... I'm looking to make sure I don't miss and to have a nice firm grip but it's such a short thing that by the time I do make eye contact, I've already let go of the shake.

look down briefly so you dont jab the persons fingers/arm then look straight into the eyes

Or I could be the one to offer the shake so that the other guy does the aiming and planting of the hand. Then I could just look at them as I extend my arm out.

I like that idea. In fact I will take it a step further. I will constantly walk around with my right hand extended in a hand shaking gesture!
