I recently got a Mitsubishi 2020u monitor(hooked to my AIW Radeon) from another member here, so today I thought I would play around with a multi-monitor setup. I installed my favorite little V3 2000 PCI into my rig and hooked it up to my 19" Optiquest and booted up into XP. Enabled the display and "yes" we have dual monitors up and running no problems. Checked it out and "yes" we can run different refresh/resolution in the two monitors "this is cool" So I fire up a DVD full screen and set my Mitsu @ 800x600@60hz and enabled TV-out "Yes" we have a DVD playing full screen in the Mitsu and the TV, and I've got a web browser on my Opti @ 1024x768@85 hz "I'm liken this"

so I get to thinking, hey "My Mitsu has BNC connectors (using them from the Radeon) and a VGA connector (thought that would be cool for working on my friend's rigs, it is!) Maybe I could hook the VGA to my V3 2000 and just switch between them with the BNC/D-SUB button...hmmmm.

Shut down, hooked the V3 to the Mitsu VGA connector and rebooted. Installed the *.inf file for the Mitsu on the secondary diplay, cranked it up to 1600x1200 @ 85hz and here I am, DVD playing on the TV with my AIW Radeon (original) and typing an AT Post in my Browser on my Mitsu. 1 CRT + 1TV display, different resolutions/refresh rates. Push the button goes to the Movie, push it again goes to the Browser.

You have to have a monitor with either 2 VGA, or 1 BNC and VGA connectors for it to work (bummer) but if you do, It works!

UPDATE: Extending the desktop to the secondary monitor breaks the TV/Video Capture, I have to disable it in display properties, then all is well. So with the secondary video card enabled, no TV or capturing video, otherwise, it seems to work great.

Its a very nice monitor, I use 2040u's at work so when I spotted this one in the FS/T forum, I had to get it. Luckily he wouldn't ship, or it would have been long gone, I picked it up locally here. Its nice having some more real estate, and 1600x1200 is real pleasant. I'm going to pick up a DFP in a bit, having 2 CRT's just overwelms my desk at home. I was just playing around, and thought that was kind of cool for watching video's on the TV while working on the PC. If I could get the video-input to work while the secondary monitor was enabled, that would be cool, but no big deal.

Also, because I can switch between the 2 cards, I can compare the 2D quality directly just by pushing a button. I always thought my V3 had pretty good 2D, and it does, but the edge goes to the Radeon at 1600x1200. Below that pretty much equall, I can't really tell the diference at all. Video playback is another story, The Radeon is very good like always, but Video playback on the V3 is poor by comparison. No stuttering, it just seems like its rendering the frames poorly, maybe the XP drivers?

Hey, you're right. :D

Actually, I installed hydravision to attempt to use the TV-out without "cloning" the desktop. The multi-desktop works fine(like litestep or KDE) but the extended desktop won't. It tells me I have to have an ATI display driver installed (I of course do) and won't load, dang it.

If I don't run out of money first (ordering new MB, new CPU, DDR memory and s-vhs VCR this week for the Rig) I'll be getting an AIW 7500 to tide me over, but the ol' AIW Radeon is working just fine for now, this new little "feature" just makes it a bit better;)
