As I was leaving for work this morning I backed out of my garage only to see a city crew walking through my yard removing 2 political signs I had up. When I confronted them they told me they had to be 25 feet from the curb. I told them that was BS and that they were only required to be outside of the city's easement which was 6 feet. I ran for office back in 96 so I had researched this back then when my signs started disappearing and I caught a road crew removing them. Anyway??.I asked them on whose authority they were doing this and the foreman said "I don't need no authority, I am the authority" I then asked for his name and the telephone number for his boss. He would give me neither so I walked over to their truck, got the tag number, the vehicle number, then took my signs away from them and put them back in the yard. I then told them if they so much as touched those signs I would have their jobs.

I just got off the phone with the City Manager and let him know what was going on. He said the road crew was in the wrong and that signs were only required to be 6 feet from the curb. He also apologized and said he would deal with the foreman of the crew for being rude and removing the signs.

Better watch out that one of the city's bricks doesn't end up through one of your windows.

Good for you, it is highly respectable that you fought them in a professional manner.

I'm sure I wouldn't like your signs (judging from the position you seem to have through the foums) but denying your right to express your view is deplorable.

So sad that you ran into a guy who knew better than you and yet you couldn't listen. You really are supporting the wrong causes. So sad to be blind. They were only doing you a favor.

It really irritates me when the crews do that. Especially when they tend to remove the signs of one party and not the other. I plan on going home at lunch and seeing if my signs are still there and if my neighbors signs have been touched. He belongs to that other party, ;), and this morning his were still there even though the crew's truck was parked in front of his house.

I've seen crews remove signs for both sides needlessly....it's just stupid....so you don't agree with someone....that doesn't give you the right to take down their signs. It's moronic....

Not that I saw...like I said my neighbor is a member of that other party and he had signs in his yard that had not been touched by the crew even though they were parked in front of his house. They left after our little showdown but who knows if they came back after I left. I plan on going home at lunch to see if my signs are still there and if anyone else's signs are gone.

That would actually crack me up....I would be pissed but hey....I'm about to put in new windows anyway so why not let the city pay for it.....the front of my house as 3 arched windows(1 in the bedroom, 2 in the game room) that are 8 feet wide and 6 1/2 feet tall....I know what they cost and they are welcome to pay for 1 or more.

Good work, shiner. I wanted to see if you outrage was over your rights (to express your political view) or your emotional reaction to some fool who treats you as an inferior. You seem to have put the emphasis on the right syllable, as they say.

No....didn't think of it at the time. I was already planning on doing that when I get home though....going to get out a tape measure, measure the distance and take pictures showing the signs with the tape measure showing their distance from the curb. Probably have to enlist the help of the wife to hold the tape so you bozos might actually get to see her again. ;)

Make sure you measure your neighbor's signs distance from the street, too.
Make sure you have permission to walk onto his property if you do.

That won't be a problem....we are in each other's yard all the time. He comes over and gets vegatables out of my garden, peaches from my tree, and plays with my dogs. I go over and get blueberries and apples from him. It's all good. Works out well........I've known him forever....heck back in high school(I graduated in 88) I dated one of his daughters for nearly a year.

If he only knew what his daughter and I did I'm not so sure I wouldn't end up with a poison apple. ;)

Now your being an ass. He had his rights to put up those signs with the rules, which he did, and the crew had no right to take them out and push their "authority". You're like the Riprorin of the left.
