She just informed me her boss is sending everyone in the office to Fiji for a week in December for the company retreat! Damn her and her cool job! He said that spouses could go too, but we'd have to pay my airfare, which is $1500. While that's cheaper than I could find it anywhere else, I still don't have a spare $1500 lying around!

*EDIT* I just remembered I can cash in my stock options in my company next week for $2200!!!! Wooo Hooooo, I'm going to Fiji!!!!!!

Ask your wife if she (or any other member of the family) has any frequent flyer miles to lower the bill. People in our family ask us for leftover miles all the time.

I listen to Clark every day on my way home from work. Her boss got a good deal on the package with the flight price, so I don't know if I'd be able to match it. Also, what would be the chances of me finding a flight that arrives and leaves the same days?

auction off the baby's name to the highest corporate bidder :)

edit: see if her flight is business class for $1500. If so, downgrade to coach and use the savings to offset your ticket cost. My fiance had a chance to do that, the savings on her ticket would have gotten me to berlin.

That is the price under his deal.
I did a quick search for tix on travelocity and expedia and the cheapest I could find there is like $1900 and would take two days. They have a direct flight from Atlanta (the most direct you can get with a stop in LA).

what are you people complaining about...Your going to FIJI~!~!~! I'm stuck in my office, working, because my boss is pregnant and is taking maternity leave. Happy for her, sucks for me. No vacation...my workers are lazy so I have to do everything myself, my workers are idiots. (great techs, just can't do anything else. Is it that hard to type a invoice correctly???) Enjoy your vacation. I haven't had a vacation since I was 18. Gosh...my life sucks.

Enjoy....and be glad you aren't me.

I'm so happy for you and your wife. If you think you're excited about it now, just think how good it's going to feel in December when you're leaving the winter weather behind for a tropical paradise! :)

I really don't consider Atlanta in December to be 'winter' weather, but then again, I'm originally from Michigan ;). It's gonna be soooooo cool! I can't wait. The only downside is now I won't have enough vacation time to go home for Christmas and see the family :frown:

who cares if your wife gets a free ride. That kind of money just to tag along is ridiculous.

Tell her to skip the trip, and take the 1500 bucks and go somewhere in the caribbean. Its the same thing, but a lot cheaper than expensive far ass away fiji.

You have a valid argument. However a week in the Caribbean for the both of us would probably end up costing a lot more than $1500. The money is for the flight only. Her boss is paying for the hotel and all food/drinks (yes I mean booze). We took a cruise in the caribbean for our honeymoon and that ended up totalling over $3k.

You probably want to fly on the same plane with your wife so you shouldn't really go bargain hunting if you want to catch the same flight as her.
