I don't know why I didn't ask this earlier but...

I don't know why I didn't ask this earlier but...

I received my 8800GTS 320MB in a 640MB box. My heart stopped for a while when I saw the box, thinking that they mixed up my order and sent me a 640MB instead (man would I have been happy).

Anyway...

The box looked a bit tattered. What does that mean? Could there be something wrong with this particular card? Refurbished? OEM? RMA'd?

The card performs "OK". Nothing extremely that spectacular above my X850XT that I had before.

Maybe since they were the same model, someone got mixed up. Or possibly, it was the same thing as the 7900GTO.

I don't understand.

I just got an Evga 8800GTS 640 from NewEgg.

On the back of the box is a clear window showing the UPC label on the card, and a matching one on the box. Check to see if yours has both and they match.

I already checked that...They match but I was just wondering if there was something wrong with my card.

It doesn't seem so but I just wanted to be sure. If it is okay then it should be able to overclock quite a bit....

Which is the better program to overclock it with?
RivaTuner or ATI Tool?

Also what should I use to test it for stability?

ATI Tool on a nVidia card?

it does works.

Well I remember hearing about this when I went to Fry's. Apparently eVGA had several batches of these mislabelled cards, which had to be sent back to the manufacture (640MB GTSs were ordered but instead 320MB GTSs inside 640MB boxes). You probably have one of those cards.

I just thought that I could max everything and it runs smoothly. I think I just need the extra memory. I want to change out this G.SKILL 1GB HK for 2x1GB of the HZ. Anyway...The GTS is WAY FASTER than the X850XT.

With the GTS i'm getting between 25-110 FPS in Oblivion (depending on where I am) with everything maxed @ 1024x768 @ 2x AA (forced) + HDR. The XT did that on medium settings with no AA and obviously no HDR (SM3.0 & VM3.0).

How is that for you guys??
Is that good going?

Why 1025 x 768? At least move up to 1200 x 1024 and back off the AA/Ansio if needed. I'd say 2 gigs of RAM is a must as well, particularly at today's prices.

I run my desktop at 1152x864 with a refresh rate of 75Hz. Any refresh rate lower than that, the flickering gets annoying to me on my 17" CRT. The monitor will run 1280x1024 but at 60Hz only. Is there a way to override that? Can the video card override it somehow?
