One time at work I replaced a homemade fuseblock for some guy. It was just a piece of wood with screws tied together with bare wire.

LOL, I can just see him punching the hole in the drywall, running the wires, and then the wife comes in and says "No, I want it a foot to the right."

lol, wait, aren't you who had the one where the bathroom fan housing didn't lead to any vents or holes at all... it was just a.. housing, for a fan, with no area to blow anything to?

You mean you don't notice the highly illegal electrical work?

No box, no connectors, no wire jacket (more of a convenience than necessary), wires ripped through the drywall.

Also, depending on his Local EC, he may have to have used BX as opposed to the individual wires/Romex.

No, that was someone else. I'm the guy who was bagging on Moen faucets recently though.

Edit-and the guy who was really pissed recently when I pulled out a toilet I installed because I thought it was leaking but it was really my son peeing on the floor.

have you owned the house since it was new?

if not, maybe the person that owned it before you replaced the original fixture.

even with that said, this don't look like a big deal to me.

Boy that illegal labor is talented. They seem to fully understand electrical codes also. Nice!

That's what I was thinking. No builder is going to pull that kind of crap.

I'm not positive, but wouldn't it be to code if the original fixture that was located there basically had the "box" inside the fixture? Not all fixtures are made to be mounted to a box.

There was some guy here not too long ago who opened the vent in his bathroom... to find that it wasn't a vent at all... well, the vent grill and fan were there, but there was no hole!

There's no electrical box there, if someone replaced the original fixture why would they remove the box..and pull the wiring out through the drywall like that? The house was built in 1995 and I'm 99% sure this is the original fixture. It is consistent with the rest of the cheap assed light fixtures in the other bathrooms.
