i don't know what's wrong

i have a compaq presario 1500
it's a p4 2.0
ddr266 768
80gb seagate
32mb ati 7500

the other day i changed my desktop background to black and i used the notebook for quite some time. i trun the machine of and put it on the next day and the the whole windows desktop is black including the start task bar everything i can only see some icons here and there but other than that everything is black.
when you open my computer you can't see anything.
i know it's not a graphic hardware problem cause when windows boots up the screen is prefect even the login screen is fine it's after i put in my password and go into windows that everything gets black.

what do i do???
 
i tried that nuthing happens.
i also tried to revert to the last known good config still nuthing.
 
nah the taskbar does'nt is mainly black except for START but hen you go on start the programs and stuff is black again.
 
Uh... this is a stupid idea, but try it anyway... btw, this is assuming you are running Windows XP.

Right click on your desktop, choose properties.

Choose the appearance tab.

Choose "Windows XP Style" under Windows and buttons.
Choose "Default (Blue)" under Color Scheme.

See if that works...
 
There are a few distros of Linux that fit on to a CD. You can even find some of them in Linux magazines they sell for about 6$.
Even if you can't use linux, you can find out if it's a hardware or BIOS problem as opposed to a software problem. Graphics cards can do some very odd things when they're on their last legs. (In this case, you're likely running Intel Extreme graphics, but the idea's the same.)
