My puter is officially driving me insane but i suppose everyone's been there right? For the past few days i've been randomly getting vertical bars on my screen forcing me to reboot and XP tells me that it has a problem with my RADEON 8500 card. I've updated my drivers and still have the same problems (i'm not running Directx 9). Now i'm having problems getting my puter to even boot up. Sometimes bios will begin to startup b4 my monitor goes to sleep, sometimes my monitor stays asleep or stays blank, and sometimes my hard drives won't even start spinning (not in a RAID). I'm using MBProbe to monitor my temps/voltage and i'm getting bad readings for +12v and +2.5V. I checked the mobo connector from my power supply and some of the pins are brown like they've been burnt but everything else in the case looks fine.

Epox 8K7A+
512MB pc2100
RADEON 8500 64mb
Athlon XP 1900+
400w PS
Do i need to replace something? Mobo, Vid Card, or Power Supply? Or should i just result to throwing my system out of my 3rd floor window?

First, remove and reinsert your video card. If the problem persists, I'd bet the card is actually bad.

I would start by taking everything out and putting them back in, one by one. Everything.

Start adding things back starting with the video card and ram, then everything else.

It sounds like either a bad power supply or you are overheating the system.

If you get a new PS, get one with plenty of extra juice and lots of ventilarion Antec makes good ones.

oh yes i think we've all been driven insane by our computers from time to time but yeah i've experienced the vertical bars on my screen before my video card died on me even though 3D still worked fine in games. your video card could also be overheating. check to make sure it's fan is working properly. it could also be your psu so i'd try swapping out your psu for a good one.
