I don't know what to try anymore...I'm tired all the time!

I know, I know. "Gee, johnjohn, you only seem to come here to whine and complain anymore!" Sorry, I'm just stressed out lately.

Anywho, I am seriously getting to the point of being so tired all the time that it is inhibiting my life. I can't concentrate very well, I'm not always very social (read: in a good mood), and sometimes I end up half-assing things that I know are very important to me, but I get so exhausted that I just don't care at the particular time that I'm doing it.

I've tried eating healthier, cutting down on the bad stuff and eating more healthy good stuff. Good for the conscience, and I'm still in these eating habits, but it did nothing for my energy level.

I've tried exercising. Again, good for the conscience, but now I'm just tired, sore, and sweaty. (And yes, I've been exercising regularly for months now, running, etc).

And of course, the amount of sleep I'm getting. Here's the issue: I'm tired all day, yet when I finally get to lay in bed with the lights off, guess what happens? I lay awake for hours. I got about 4 hours of sleep last night. Not that I wasn't tired. It's that I went to bed at 10 and laid their til about 1:45.

Can anyone else suggest something obvious that I must be forgetting? I don't know what else to do. i have bags under my eyes constantly. I have a busy schedule, true, but not an insanely hectic one. (See post count, I obviously still have some leisure time).

As has been said before: I'm tired of being tired. (I know, the word "sick" is usually in there, but I'm not sick, sooo....)

Thanks guys.

I didn't even know they existed. But somehow, I'm not sure I'd put much stock in that sort of thing. I know that's not fair, but I've just heard all sorts of stories of people getting screwed in those types of things.

It seems to me that in response to a previous thread, several people suggested that you see a doctor -- something conspicuously missing from your list of things that you've tried. Let's face it: this isn't a forum for medical interns, we're just computer geeks! Get some advice from a professional!

Good luck!

Skip a night of sleep. Now next day, sleep at a normal hour. Now, set your alarm to a normal waking time. Get up. Repeat. Trust me, you'll be surprised at how early you want to go to bed. If you get up at 8am, guaranteed you'll be exhausted by 10pm that night. Don't let yourself stay up to do "stuff". That will screw you up big time. I know, I'm the same way. I need maybe 30-60 minutes to "wind down" before bedtime too, or else I'll be tossing in bed for hours.

Or you could just go see a doctor.

Ah-ha! Welcome to the sleep disorder channel. Your guest is tcsenter, who was diagnosed with narcolepsy after fumbling his way through life, often disasterously, for more than 10 years undiagnosed.

And it rarely ever will. I'm sure you've already heard the gamut of H.U.W.M.U.A. - Horribly Uninformed, Wrong, and Medically Unsubstantiated Advice - I certainly did.

Diet is rarely ever, if ever, implicated or associated with chronic fatigue and sleepiness, yet it is one of the first and most offered 'bits' of wisdom and advice. Eat more veggies! Eat more fiber! Eat more leafy green thingies! Take Vitamins!

Search the annals of medical science till your heart's content, and you will not find one single case study, not one iota of evidence, to even suggest, let alone prove, that some person suffering from a fatigue disorder was miraculously cured by eating more broccoli or taking vitamins. Not one. It is probably the biggest myth in existence.

But for-profit vitamin companies have lots of "testimonials" if you're interest!

The fact is, unless you live in a third-world country, all kinds of foods sold and served today, even 'junk foods', are enriched with vitamins and minerals. In order to actually suffer from a vitamin and mineral deficit that is severe enough to cause symptoms, you would need to entirely subsist on the most atrocious diet of Twinkies and Bubble Gum, which no human could do unless it were the ONLY foods available to him. Even if the range in your diet encompasses only the slightest variety of foods, you're probably getting enough vitamins and minerals.

If you feel that you've tried all common sense things without success, then you need to make an appointment with your doctor. I don't know why, but there is this pervasive 'belief' among society that, if you always feel tired or fatigued, then its probably your own doing (i.e. lifestyle related). There are only about 100 proven, recognized, and treatable medical disorders which can result in fatigue, sleepiness, tiredness, etc.

Thing is, I don't wanna go off pumping some meds into my body if it's unnecessary. I'll probably just mention it to my doctor next time I happen to be there.

For now, I think I'm gonna go with the crank. 🙂

Quit drinking coffee.

Quit drinking caffinated products (Chocolate, Soda, Pop, Cola, etc).

Drink a protein shake in the morning.

Run 3 miles every other day.

Lift weights on the days you don't run.

Try not to take naps during the day.

See if that helps.

Same here. I could propably fall in sleep in matter of seconds at any time of the day, but at nights it usually takes 1 to 4 hours. It's so weird 😕

Tried it all, except for the weights. That, and I ran every day.

have you tried drinking water??

lots and lots of water!

drink nothing but water all day. I think that might help ya.

If anything it will keep you running back and forth to the bathroom!

Do a google search for "hypoglycemia". You may have it..both my mother and I do. Eat the wrong thing, and I'll sleep for a while...etc. Very crappy, but I have to live with it.

Who does? The thing is, how long are you going to wait, how much suffering must you first endure, before you are ready to consider the possibility that this problem isn't related to 'lifestyle' or caused by something that you can 'control' on your own without medical help?

Let me tell ya, I was as stubborn as they come, absolutely determined to heal myself, and after causing two car accidents, nearly causing a few dozen more, and being fired from two great jobs, I sure wish I would have come to my senses long before I did. I waited until I hit rock bottom; financially, emotionally, psychologically, personally.

But, its your life. Good luck.

Tried it. Yup, I peed a lot. That's about it.

Never hurts to get tested for sleep apnea.
Could be a really good idea. I know a few people that have it and have reported feeling much better after being diagnosed and getting treatment. I've had people tell me when I'm sleeping that I stop breathing for a few seconds every now and then so I'm guessing I have it.

edit: if you're tired and lying in bed and can't get to sleep though it sounds to be at least somewhat of a mental thing, maybe try some sleep aids for 2-3 nights to see if you can get in a routine?
