I don't know much about TVs . . . good deal?

Saw an LG 47in LED 120Hz, 1080P 3D Smart TV at Tiger Direct earlier today. Its 700 after rebate for a refurbished model. 30 day warranty from Tiger, 3 months from LG. Normal retail price is ~1100, from what I can tell at Newegg/Amazon/Best Buy. User reviews at Amazon are generally positive, with most criticism directed at cumbersome 'Smart apps'.

Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me, anyone have experience with Tiger Direct and their refurbished products?

I just bought a 55" LED, 120hz, 1080P smart tv (no 3-d) for $700 from Best Buy of all places.

.... I would say it isn't that great of a deal.

Brand?

Almost pulled the trigger on the LG last night, but they had a 3 week ship time. And with only 4 weeks from purchase date to complete the rebate, thats uncomfortably close.

Not all LCD LED TV's are created equally. This particular TV is a very nice LCD. Passive 3D with a great 2D PQ, more than I can say about most LCD LED TV's. And for $700, I think it is a good deal. I recommended the 55" LW5600 (local dimming LED) to my brother when it was on sale for $1099 and he loves it. The difference between the LW5600 and the LW5700, is that the LW5700 is not a local dimming set. However, if you are adventurous, you can perform a hack that will essentially turn your LW5700 into an LW5600, enabling local dimming. But even without the hack, I think you'll be very happy with the LG LW5700's PQ. Also consider this is a passive 3D set which means you do not have to charge your glasses, and also means the glasses are MUCH cheaper than the standard active shutter glasses. That was a BIG selling point for my brother.

In my experience, when people mention screen size and the tech (LCD or plasma) with no mention of the model, PQ and performance are not normally a priority. They just want a big screen at the cheapest price.

The LG you are looking at is a quality set for the price.

The best bang for the buck would be a Mits DLP HDTV these days. The obvious issues with it are you need a stand to put it on and cannot hang it on the wall, but you can get a top flight big screen experience for about the same price you'd spend on this small LG flat panel.

This sale is a decent deal but I would spend the extra $100-200 to get a 65" or 72" Mits.
