I don't know about you, but I wish consoles would die out.

They're all busted and jank, their storage medium is slow, and they don't even offer backward compatibility. The console games are mad sharp due to all of the aliasing. It seems to me like the Wii-U won't be changing that because it's using an AMD HD4k derivative which had lousy mip mapping and I heard that 1080p is more important to most players than good quality (i.e., appropriate sample patterns and not post processing blur) AA.

Of course, most PC games are technically lousy also and MS's standardizations don't help (IMO), but at least you can almost always enable good AA and nv GPUs can do good mipmapping (even though the drivers don't allow it to be forced for some older games anymore, it would be possible if nv put the option back in the drivers). All of that said, PCs don't make it so the whole gameplay screen is a shimmering mess.

Why am I the only one who wishes consoles would die out so that Nintendo was forced to make their next Super Metroid remake for the PC?

lol what a troll thread.

not sure what your logic is OP, but most people who visit a console specific forum are fans of consoles, just like someone who visits <fill in the blank> forums is usually fan of the topic at hand. otherwise they would not be visiting the forum.

considering the console market is the biggest it has ever been in the history of the industry, looks like you are on the outside with this wish.

I would like to see everything available from one system. It saves a lot of space lol. I wouldn't have 2 systems collect dust either.

But...it won't happen.

I don't wish consoles would die out. I prefer certain titles on PC (RTS and FPS), but for the most part, I prefer console gaming. I like being able to sprawl out on the couch and play games on my big plasma TV with 7.1 surround sound.

Plus, I've also got about 45 PS3 games. If I had that many PC games, I'd have to be constantly be swapping out which games I have installed, and I'd have to keep backups of game/profile saves whenever I uninstall/reinstall games or Windows.

Then there's the whole thing where you don't have to keep upgrading your console every year or two if you want to play current games with smooth frame rates.

HAHAHA!

Really buddy? Seriously? You should know better if that sig is accurate. 😉

With my inexpensive OEM 1Tb drive, I currently have just over 100 PC games installed, with another 350 Gb FREE.

And the myth of "having to upgrade your PC every year or two to get smooth frame rates" needs to die in a grease fire. The PC in my sig was built over 2 years ago, and I have trouble finding any game out there that can slow it down.

Enjoy console gaming more all you want. But let's not invent ridiculous non-issues to justify it.

That can be done with PCs too.

Of course it can. But I'm not about to move my PC to the living room whenever I want to play games. Nor am I about to build a small form factor PC for gaming in the living room. That's why I bought a console.

Sig is 100% accurate. When I install games, I don't install them on my slow storage drives, -- I put them on my SSD (which is only 80GB, so there's a bit of space limitation there). I could buy a larger SSD if I really needed one, but, for my rig's primary use, it's not necessary. However, even if I had a 250GB SSD, I wouldn't game on it anymore than I do.

And depending on how much you spend on your rig, the "upgrading every 2 years" myth holds some water. Especially if you compare the cost of a console ($250ish right now) to the cost of even a mid-range gaming machine. You can lower your graphics settings for better frame rates, but that can drastically reduce image quality -- which is one of the OP's biggest gripes with consoles. Maybe "upgrading every 2 years" is a bit of an exaggeration, but, you can bet that a PC that was built at the same time as the 360 and PS3's launch (about 5 or 6+ years ago now), and for the same amount of money, would have definitely been upgraded to play today's titles. But then again, how many console owners have had to purchase multiple systems due to RRoD or YLOD?

Should I have put in the PC gaming forum? I was thinking about doing that because what you said, but I just decided to put in the console gaming forum anyway.

Do not post it there either. PC v. Console threads, that are started for no other reason than to ignite flame wars, get locked. - AT Mod DAPUNISHER
