I don't hate PDF anymore

After pretty much given up on finding a PDF convertor for Word 2003 that actually works correctly, I decide to go and download OpenOffice and try and see if it's PDF support was decent and it turns out that it creates PDF's excatly as they look in the document.

No screwing around with them or trying to print them to some crappy print driver, that pretty much destroys the layout.

I think I will leave Open Office installed 🙂

I will ALWAYS and FOREVER HATE PDF'S!!!

PDF's are beginning to be the document of choice in business. I see them replacing a LOT of paper over the next few years (heck maybe we will get back down to the paper usage before computers came about). They are convient, guaranteed and a great way to duplicate as you can take a disc in to kinko's and they can print as many as you want. They also can't be altered easily and don't keep records of what changed. They are the digital format of the future, if you ever want to be successful in the business world you better learn to like them.

I'd say PDFs are the document of choice for controlled documentation but .doc will remain the king for all other scenarios.

i always use pdf995 to convert to pdf's...however i think i saw a thread yesterday about a pdf converter that didn't pop up an ad after you converted it like pdf995...

Sure.

Edit = DOC

Distribute = PDF

Adobe Elements lets you create PDF files from MS Office Apps - for a fraction of the cost of a full Acrobat license.

Unfortunately unless you have it on hand you can't buy it unless it's a bulk business purchase (like 1000+ units)

Cheers,
Aquaman <<<<<<<<<< I looked into this 🙁

Does the Ad only pop up after creating the PDF or everytime the PDF is opened?

PDFs are the devil, or more appropriately, Acrobat is... It takes tooooooo long to load up in Firefox and slows EVERYTHING down.

pdfs in the mac preview are nice and quick 🙂 regardless, printing to PDF is extremely useful for me. i use pdfcreator (search sourceforge)

See the thing is that Open Office doesn't screwup the PDF after I take 30 minutes creating a document. The new problem I had with Word 2003 and third party driver is that it wouldn't copy the Drop Cap. It would just leave a space where it should be.

Bloody M$ would just official support PDF !!!!

Doesn't mean you have to like them.
My hate for them comes from the deepest abyss of my heart, but I know I'll just have to live with them.

Actually the format in itself isn't so bad(albeit extremely overused), Acrobat Reader is the part that truly sucks horribly.
It's not so bad under non Windows OS's where you actually have a couple of decent readers available.

You would benefit greatly from using Acrobat Reader Speedup. I used to hate the load times also until I applied this app... gets rid of the unnecessary stuff and opens up a .pdf almost as fast as a regular html page. Works on the browser plugin as well as standalone Reader.
