Seems that my computer realy doesen't like it... no idea what it is, but after some fooling around I got it to work in my server (133mhz piece of crap working as firewall), it's a Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI (ES1371 chip) card, but in win2k... I can get it to hang when I play, play without sound, and not be detected as a soundcard at all, seems that windows media player plays without giving sound and winamp just hangs (for a while then quits but I get reboot problems), I got 98SE on the server and Win2k pro on my main computer, it got a AK72 motherboard with a onboard soundcard, not sure what it's called tho... I'v disabled that using both a mobo jumper and bios, seems that if I disable any of the two it will be disabled, but there is NO way I can get anything out of the Ensoniq card...

I'm the local hardware guru so there is nobody I can call... and it seems I'v tried pretty much everything... help... :(

have u checked creative's faq for a possible fix to this problem? or even looked for 2000 drivers? You can't use 9x drivers on an NT platform

first of all, sorry Techwhore, you were just trying to help and I was a bit hars in my response, but I'd been fighting the damn thing for 3 hours straight.

Second, no dos emulation is installed on the win2k installation. I'v tried both the windows standard drivers and creative and ensonique drivers btw.

don't worry about it...

Sounds like an IRQ conflict... have you tried moving to another pci slot? Make sure it's not on the first PCI, the one next to the AGP. You could also try manually setting the IRQ's but that's not always easy.

not an irq conflict, for debugging purpose I jacked out every card but my screencard (even tried another one), turned all com ports, auto irq steering, all of it, off, and no, it's NOT an irq conflict, not even irq sharing screwing up.

And I'v tried a few slots, but I'm thinking to leave the damn thing in the server... and get a new one, I can always use the server as a overbloated mp3 player :p
