I dont get much spam/scam txt msg on my phone

I get maybe 5 spam/scam txt msg on my phone per year. (i've had my phone # for 15+ yrs)

i do get alot of scam voice calls (refinance student loans, I owe $$$ and will be arrested unless i pay now, etc) which goto voicemail because i dont recognize the #.

I have google voice.
i guess google does a good job at filtering these txt msgs?

I never got many til I gave my number to someone. May have been coincidence, but I suspect they had shitware installed that exfiltrated his contacts, and my number along with them. My phone was blowing up for a month or so, but has since settled down.

I don't get a lot of spam/scam texts either, it's mostly phone calls with the occasional voicemail.

I accidentally bought a domain name once through an auction site (basically I put it on back order and forgot to remove it) and by default when they get the domain for you there is no whois privacy. My phone was lit up non stop all day with SEO companies and crap. It was brutal. I just put it in airplane mode until I could go in and setup whois privacy.

Thankfully I did not end up on any spam lists as it pretty much immediately stopped. In general I rarely get any scam calls or spam texts but once in a while I do.

I really avoid giving out my number if I can though but sometimes you don't have a choice, a lot of stuff wants it now.

My solution is that if I don't recognize the number and/or have it saved in my contacts I don't even SEE the incoming call or hear a ring never mind answer.

Anyone who knows me will use SMS or email to get in touch if they are hoping to actually hear back!

Google has become pretty good at blocking and diverting spam texts lately too so they don't bother me.

I've got some kind of spam filter on my phone. They don't ring, but will go to VM if they leave a message.

My spam texts are about voting. They really pour it on when elections are coming soon... primaries & general. They think my name is Kevyah or... can't remember now what the other one is. Been getting them for several years.
New phone has blocking feature so i'll see if it works long term.

Mine's pretty tame too. Unfortunately my wife gets a lot of calls offering to save her tons of money on her student loans despite us having paid those off like 6 years ago. My guess is someone got a list of people who had loans but never got a list of people who paid them off. Since we paid those off early I wonder if she'll get calls through the end of her loan term
