I don't get it! Whats wrong?

I'm cross posting, already posted in technical and mobo, hopeful yall can help out some more. I'm running a 3000 venice, MSI Neo2 Platinum, and 2x512gig GeIL Ultra DDR500. After a ton of research i decided to just get 2 more 512 sticks of GeIL Ultra ddr500. Now, with just my one gig i was running at 2t timings and 2.4.4.7 latency. So, i figures since i was already at 2t timings and my venice can do 2t at 200mhz i figured the extra ram would either keep the performance the same or maybe even increase. Anyway, i threw the other sticks in, it defaulted to 166 mhz and the timings and everything else stayed the same. So i changed it 200mhz and off i went. However, my 3dmark03 score dropped from 6168 to 5500 with my fps dropping off like crazy and i started getting hickups in bf2 where i previously hadn't. I cant figure out whats going wrong. Do i not have something set right or could it possibly be since the mobo isn't all that new it cant take advantage of the venice's memory controls? Someone help me!

By the way, i switched hard drives at the same time as well. Went from an old maxtor diamondmax plus 9 ide 133 to a brand new maxtor 200gb SATA150 16mb Cache HD. Also could updating the bios help or maybe do i need to disable or enable some stuff in the bios? HELP!

turn off one option in bios, i forget what its called. I have the same board as you and its a problem too
Look for a optino called fastwrite, its under video card area in BIOS

Well i tried, but to no avail. I don't get it. Could it be because i got the bios installed off of the CD and not an updated version. If so, i got it downloaded but i don't exactly know how to flash a bios! Also, in my bios ive got it set to 200mhz at 2t timings with 2.70volts at 2.3.3.6 prime 95 stable. I tried relaxing the timings and slowly tightening but that didn't help either! By the way is there anyway to check the timings that each stick is running at to see if they are all running the same?

..Nvm have you tried running it stock? maybe you have your timings wrong. Did you find the fastwrite option btw? Might want to update the BIOS

Yeah, i tried running it stock! The timings defaulted to 2.4.4.7 but it wasn't any different. Yeah i found the fastwrite option, it was set to auto so i disabled it but it didnt change anything. How do i update the bios.

Well, i perfomed my bios update and fixed everything to 2.7v, 2.3.3.6, 2t timings, and 200mhz but still to no avail. Anybody have any ideas? The motherboards an MSI Neo2 Platinum w/ updated bios 1.b and 4x512 GeIL Ultra DDR500 ram. Please help!

Ok this memory might reclock itself when you stuck more inside it, is it running in dual channel mode? Im guessing it is in single channel mode. One more thing I checked MSI's site and it doesnt look like your memory is on there support list which could mean nothing of course.

They allso had this to say about your mobo

"Due to the High Performance Memory design, motherboards or system configurations may or may not operate smoothly at the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) standard settings (BIOS Default on the motherboard) such as DDR voltage, memory speeds and memory timing. Please confirm and adjust your memory setting in the BIOS accordingly for better system stability"

Example: Kingston HyperX DDR500 PC4000 operates at 2.65V, 3-4-4-8, CL=3.

Well, i looked at cpuz and it said that it was running dual channel and in the manual it says it does 4 dimms dual channel at DDR333mhz but i know with the venices you're supposed to be able to run 4 dimms dual channel at DDR400.

Well the GeIL supposedly runs at CAS2.5, with timings at 2.5-4-4-7 at 2.6 to 3.1volts.

Would it make a difference if i ran them at the exact specifications listed. I mean, i tryed 2.4.4.7, 3.4.4.8, 3.5.5.9, 2.2.2.6(didn't work), and 3.5.5.8! All at 2.7volts!

NOW TELL ME SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT! I TOOK OUT THE TWO STICKS OF NEW RAM AND THE PERFORMANCE STAYED EXACTLY THE SAME! So i guess either my MSI 9800pro is messed up or my Neo2 Platinum has gone screwy on me!

Get a new board. Save yourself the time and energy. Its a waste. I had that board and so did my friend and we spent more time setting it up than using it. I suggest using a Asus A8v Series board.

Since you were running 2T with only 2 sticks before, are you using you had your two sticks in the run position?
If you didn't, and now you get some new ram, you are probably mixing different ram in the same channel which would definately causes problems.

First of the cpu is a 939pin. Secondly, I was running 2 sticks of GeIL Ultra DDR500 in the first two dimms at 2t before i got the new ram. The new ram is also GeIL Ultra DDR500 and i put the two new sticks in the 3 and 4 dimms.

Check this out! I just ran 3dmark03 with my original one gig set at 2t timings and then at 1t timings. The performance was exactly the same. I even redid my 4x512 and it performed basically the same as the other test. This has got me so confused i don't know where to begin!

I finally figured out the problem yall! Its the hard drive! The old one had all the drivers and everything but the new one didn't. I tryed installing drivers but they wouldn't install, so now im completely reformating my hard drive! I've wasted five days tinkering around only to find out its a problem with the drivers on the hard drive. WOW!
