I don't get it... Is college basketball's NIT tournament to decide who is the 65th best team???

nit was out before the NCAA, it just never stopped after the NCAA became the #1 tourney. it doesn't matter. Kentucky is going to win it all anyway.

that's the joke. Most year that I remember, it seems like the team that wins was a bubble team for the NCAA tourney and just missed the cut.

I don't pay much attention to it, kind of irrelenvant unless your team is in it.

It's odd, because sometimes teams from very remote conferences place first in their conference and go into the NCAA tournament, and also some teams that do really bad overall and are like 5th or 6th in their conference get into the NCAA while some teams that are pretty good but don't have a tough schedule don't get into the NCAA.

For this reason, NIT isn't really who gets 65th, but more of a consolation prize for those that got bumped out unfairly of the NCAA... i.e. Texas Tech might not get in, but Troy State (from the Atlantic Sun conference... yeah i know Atlantic Sun? wtf is that?) will get in because they placed first in their conference.

but Texas Tech plays in one of the most difficult conferences in the NCAA. They had their chance to prove themselves against Oklahoma,Kansas,Texas and any non-conference games they had. They played top-tier teams and lost. Troy state hasn't played anything near the type of talent that TT has. This is their chance. And they are the only team from their conference to get a bid, b/c it's small, and not a strong conference.
