I dont get any sound from my sound card...

So i just got my new system and pretty much everything is set up but there is still one problem, i dont get any sound from my sound card. My sound set up consists of a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit, Logitech Z-5500 sound system. I have all the drivers installed and all that. NOW, since the sound card didnt work i wanted to check my speakers, i changed the device used to the onboard sound (MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum) and it works fine, except that when i play HL2 i only get sound out of the front middle speaker, and yes i did set it to 5.1 in the audio settings(in game and out). Also when i tried to use the sound card i did disable the on board sound in the BIOS settings. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What OS you running?

I had the same problem this weekend practically. My sisters old computer wouldnt play sound, and the network card wasnt working properly, There were no resource conflicts according to the device manager (thank you microsoft) but i changed the irq, dma etc settings manually, and tada, they both worked. about 10 hours of my time wasted! thanks microsoft

So yeah, you may want to check for resource conflicts.

Oh yeah, in the volume control you can choose what sound card you want to use, maybe its still using the onboard in windows, check with the settings for the SB live!

i checked to make sure windows wasnt still using the on board sound and set it to the sound card, and i dont know what DMA or IRQ settings are please let me know.

and i was browsing thru my files then all of a sudden i start hearing the clickig u get when u go back and forth thru folders and im like wtf? my sound card starts working OMFG SO MUCH BETTER THAN ON BOARD, but i have no freaking clue Y it started working out of nowhere, so if u have any ideas lemme know aswell please

also im afraid to reboot because i dont want the sound to not work once i get back into windows lol

ps running XP SP2

Search for IRQ settings on google youll get lots of information. Pretty weird that it just started working all of a sudden. What were you trying to see if the sound was working? I usually just hit the sound icon in the bottom, and move the volume, making a "Ding!" sound.

If I were you I would reboot now to see if it works, if it doesnt work, you know youre that close to fixing it.

Good luck
