I wouldn't sit there for three hours for that movie.

I'd sit there for three hours with your girlfriend though. Just kidding....

you are not alone I waited till FOTR came out on DVD before I saw it. I swear the longest 3 hours of my life. I almost turned it off because I was falling asleep.

when i went to see the first one i was getting pretty bored throughout it. i wanted it to end, but then i realized it doesn't really have any resolution so i just sat through it because my ride wanted to watch the whole thing. i haven't seen the second one.

I agree sitting in a theatre for three hours is not the most comfortable thing to do. But to have the movie closer to the book, the movie should have been longer. I imagine that the "Extend Edition" will be thirty to forty minutes longer.

Can you say 'short attention span', boys and girls?

"Short attent... oooh, look at the pretty lights!"

When my brother went to the Univ of Alabama in the 80s, there was a theater near campus that had an awesome intermission....bar in the back of the theater :)

Just don't drink a Big Gulp before you walk into the theater and you'll be ok :) TTT actually flew by faster for me than FOTR.

You're kidding, right?

i don't call sittin for 3 hours a short attention span.

So, you expect six to seven hundred pages of text to be easily compressible into two hours of running time? How long does it even take to read that much material?

No, I'm not kidding. Consider it good training for a career. If you can't sit on your butt for three hours, how will you ever do it for eight (or, if you're going into management, for 12)?

Okay, maybe I'm kidding just a little. :)

<edit> Let me rephrase that -- I'm kidding! Period. It was a joke.</edit>

Seriously, tho, I when I saw FOTR, I didn't even realize how much time had passed, and I'm chronically hyperactive -- I always have to be moving or doing something with my hands. The only reason my wife and I haven't gone to see TTT yet is that she's due to give birth any time now, and definitely doesn't feel like sitting in one position for more than about 20 minutes. I agree that an intermission would be a great thing to bring back to the movie-going experience. Give everyone a 10- or 15-minute break to go out, hit the head, refill their drinks, stretch their legs, whatever. The times my wife and I have gone to the opera, the intermissions were lifesavers.

I've already been in my career for about 2 years, so don't give me a "i'm older and wiser than you" speech. That comparison is infinitely different than a long movie, though. Since you said you were kidding a little, I won't pursue my counter-argument.

I'd like to see this question posed on a not so geeky, everyone loves the lord of the rings message board, though.... i'm sure it would be very different

The problem is when you have to take a leak, your legs are cramped up, or you are dreadfully thirsty.

Really long movies need a 5-10 minute intermission so you can take care of this stuff and not have to miss anything.

I know when I saw Two Towers i went to the bathroom right before the movie and only had a very small cup of soda during, but I was still uncorfortably "holding it" for the last 30-45 minutes of the film because I didn't want to miss a frame.
