Time to leave the sack and hit the gym

I do not want to be a skinny stick man for the past many years anymore. I have access to free company gym and I want to start working out and build some muscles.

How should a total newbie start in the gym in order to build muscles and gain some mass. And i think gaining muscles is hard for asians? No? Can u experts give me some tips?

here are my stats
21 year old asian
6'1 height
175Lb

If you're tall like I am then it's very difficult to build muscle. I'm not sure if being Asian makes it harder for us but so far i've been able to gain quite a bit of muscle in a short time.

Nice job bringing ethnicity into the equation.
lol, is it really an issue if someone asks a question relating to their ethnicity? there are obviously differences between races/ethnicities, can we not accept those or do we need to be PC to the point that we post online as if everyone was made just the same?

If you're 6'1" 175 that doesn't seem malnourished skinny to me. I'm 6'2" 185 and i'd prefer to cut myself down to 175.

No matter how fast you may think your metabolism is, you can always beat it by eating enough. The problem is, most people have no clue how much they eat in any given day, and most people who say they eat a lot and can't gain weight actually don't eat all that much.

First, you need to start tracking your daily calories on this website:

Your numbers are light by "average" stats, but they look good to me...give it time, you'll probably start putting on weight as you get older.

Otherwise, good look at the gym 🙂

For diet and your gym regimen, do your research. I think the Men's Health forums have a lot of good information. Here's a thread about clean eating. It's critical for weight loss, but I think clean eating applies for gaining muscle as well as good health. Here's a link to their Fitness forum with a lot of good info stickied at the top.

It sounds like you've never worked out at a gym before. You need to start out training with someone who knows what he's doing or work with a trainer. There are too many guys who go work out and have absolutely no clue - you don't want to be one of them.

Anyone can gain muscle, as it just takes time, effort, and a decent diet.

Eat everything in site. Get a weight gainer as well.

Deadlifts, squats, dips, pullups, core exercises, bench.
