I had a take home law final once. IE: it was the only grade for the course.

9 hour essay test with an 8 page double spaced page limit. 65% of the grade was your answer, the other 35% was the grammar and structure of your answer. The test was horrible, and I had a migraine kick in at the three hours mark. I ended up with a B+ because of grammar and structure.

I have learned to hate take home essays, open book, and multiple choice exams in law school. Closed book essay is where it is at.

I had a take home physics final once. Except it was closed book. Oh, and we weren't supposed to spend more than 4 hours on it. I talked to the professor and asked if she considered that cheating would be practically impossible to test. She said that we were good kids and she didn't think anyone would cheat. I'm not sure if she was just one of those really nice, really naive people, or if she had a surefire way to detect cheaters.

I didn't use the book, but I'm pretty sure I went over the time limit by half an hour or so. Actually, using much more time wouldn't have made that much of a difference; if I hadn't figured out the problems by that point, I doubt I would've done so given all the time in the world.

In the end I actually did respectably on it. It was a welcome change of pace from getting my ass handed to me by physics.

Had a Visual Basic class many, many, many years ago. One of the questions was:

"DIM is a ____ statement."

I answered:

"DIM is a declaration statement."

When the question was marked as incorrect, the teacher insisted that this is the answer:

"DIM is a DIM statement."

I pointed out how absurd it was, but she still wouldn't correct it.
