I dislike pulldown hand towels.

Before the days of electric hand dryers and paper towels lots of places used these pull down hand towels. I'm sure all of you have seen them I just don't quite know what they are officially called. These would be in dispensers that look a lot like regular paper towel dispensers only they had a large roll of fabric towel instead of paper. This towel would hang down then loop back up into the dispenser. You had to crank it down to get more clean towel. You don't see them much anymore, I suspect due to hygiene reasons. At any rate I notice that a few restaurants DO still use them. Not my fav. I've lived in Asia during the 80s and have been back a number of times without any issues with places with poor hygiene so it's not like I'm some clean freak. Not sure why I don't like them really.

The blow-dryer in the bathroom here is this weird air-blade thing. I really don't like it, it collects water from people's hands at the bottom, and the backwash of the air blows right into your face.

I like the dispensers where you just grab a towel, and the next fresh one is automatically pulled out for the next person.

Well, opposite opinion here.

Paper towel dispensers are OK, but the towels often sit snug in a small opening, and my hand makes some contact with the dispenser surface when taking the towel. The canvas towel has been touched by one previous user at most, and I consider them by far the nicest / most hygienic option. (edit: I mean the type where you grab the sides of the towel and pull; I haven't seen a crankable version which would obviously be a bad idea.)

Dryers are loud and obnoxious. I never use them. Also dislike the light-activated paper towel dispensers due to the noise they make when spitting out paper.

I saw they the last time around 2001, never saw them after that...

I hate the blow driers, too loud and cant wipe your face...

The paper ones are good as long as they are not the motion sensor automatic type, they always dispense some after the last use that will stay exposed and hanging for the next user... most of the time right above a trash can or sink. aagghh...

I know of them, but have never seen one. With clever engineering,, you could make the towel perpetually clean, but I think that's a solution in search of a problem. I like paper towels.

Dyson Airblade. They are popping up everywhere. That Dyson guy really knows how to market his products! But yeah I don't like that dryer either.

Automatic electric dryers are both the most hygienic AND environmentally friendly.

I like the airblade a lot actually. In terms of effectiveness it seems to be on par with the super high speed regular air dryers, but the airblade doesn't make it feel like my skin is about to fly off.

I am glad that the airblade and the super high speed ones are becoming more common. Regular hot air dryers are pathetically bad.

I like the dryson airblade but i havent had the unfortunate side effect of a pool of collected water that flies back into the person. that would be pretty disgusting!

the fabric pulldown thing is very disgusting to me, i much prefer paper towels even if they autodispense into the trash because i'd just rip those off and grab new dispensed ones.

I like the super high speed ones. Regular hand drivers are more environmentally friendly than paper towels but I wonder if the super high speed ones are as well?

I just used one of those Dyson airblades for the first time yesterday. It is pretty cool. I didn't have the water spray come back at me, but the restroom was fairly uncrowded and I while I did see some water in the bottom of it, I guess it wasn't enough. Now that you point that out though, I can see how on a really busy day that might happen.

That would be pretty effin' gross.

oh, i never did like those rotating towel dryers...like a handkerchief..you don't know what is on it.

dyson airblade isn't deep enough. by the time you get the heel of your hand in the thing your fingers are in the nasty water collecting at the bottom.

how did those fabric towel things work? i remember seeing them but don't think i ever used one.

My hands are larger than most and I don't have that issue. As for the fabric hand towel dispenser they look like this. Although this looks cleaner looking than any that I've seen:

They still don't replace the need for paper towels to be available. I use just a air dryer for my hands, but for things like spills, getting soaked, etc...paper towels work better.

I remember going to a bathroom and being able to go in do my business wash hands and leave without touching anything in it. It was glorious.

i know what they look like, just don't remember how they worked. is the used up towel rolled up on the rack and sent off for cleaning i guess?

i hate the one that ratchets out one sheet at a time and perforates the next piece and has that star wheel or kitchen stove dial looking handle you have to touch if the previous cut towel got sucked back in the dispenser.

there is a technique involved in being able to pull the first sheet and letting the next one pop out. a technique that nobody apparently knows but me.

You realize that machine is empty. You pulling out two sheets for one would make you Harry Houdini.
