I disabled my video adapter; now I can't navigate Windows because there's no image... help!

After trying several times to reinstall my Catalyst drivers for my 9800 Pro, I got frustrated. The video information kept saying "(Default monitor) on (blank)." I figured maybe disabling THIS unnamed adapter would let me reinstall the 9800 Pro with the Catalyst drivers. It was strange because I could even enter higher resolutions than 640x480 IN SAFE MODE. Now, however, in safe and regular modes, I see NOTHING. The screen is black. I cannot navigate Windows. Would a repair installation help fix this problem, or am I totally screwed and might need to reformat? Man, that would totally blow. Please give any suggestions! Thanks.

If I'm understanding correctly, you could either install another video card or try reseating the one you have? It might trick windows into giving you a picture.

Yeah, that's what I thought... but I reseated AND installed a diff video card and I had the SAME PROBLEM. I think I may have disabled the default video card driver for Windows or soemthing... it's veryi confusing. I'm gonna try putting my HDD in another computer with totally different specs and working from there. I'll post my results... wish me luck!

One last ditch try if nothing else will save you....XP PRO

If you disabled the video adaptor you might be able to do a blind fix if nothing else works and there is only one video adaptor listed in device manager.

After booting to desktop blind.. hit windows key + Break

that will bring up the system properties applet.

Arrow right, and arrow right again to get to the hardware tab.

Hit tab 3 times to highlight Device Manager then hit Enter to open Device Manager.

Tab once, then arrow down 3 times to highlight display adaptor. Arrow right to expand. Arrow down to highlight the video adaptor installed.

Enter key will then open the properties tab for the video adaptor General Tab.

Hit Tab once to highlight the device usage tab, and hit the arrow down key to change to enabled.

Tab once more to highlight the OK key and hit enter.

Computer should then prompt to reboot or maybe if you are lucky it will enable video adaptor.. In any case I would reboot the sytem and cross your fingers that the hardware setup is the same as most typical computers and it works. As I said, its just something to try if NOTHING else will bail you out.

Thanks a lot for the help! I should have posted a bit earlier to save you some time.. I actually fixed the problem myself! I just entered the bootup menu before Windows loaded and selected "Use most recent settings that worked." Viola! I have an image! However, it was still reverting to the stupid "VgaSave" drivers. I figured out how to get rid of these ("Enable VGA Mode") and install the Omega Catalyst drivers, so I'm ready to rock'n'roll again! Man, it's been a bad week for my computer, but I think I'm finally back on track. Thanks again.
