Before i disabled it, i had my network card/video/sound all on irq 11. i was having graphical slowdowns, so i took acpi and all the sharing as my excuse. well, after turning it off, i found out that it wasnt the problem. but now my problem is that my comp won't shut down by itself. is there anyway to remedy this?

There have been some work-arounds described on this forum on this subject. Do a search.

Go into the Control Panel and choose the "Power Options" icon. There should be a tab labeled "APM". Click on that tab and check the box next to "Enable Advanced Power Management Support". This will allow the PC to shut down while leaving ACPI disabled...:)

Really...is ACPI disabled on your system? I'm using Win2k and I just checked in the Power Options area of the Control Panel and it is there. I think it needs to be disabled before that tab shows up..

hah, yeah, it's disabled. i turned it off in the bios as well, and my comp is running as a "standard pc."

Weird...what tabs do you have in the Power Options? Are you using SP2? Try turning it on in the bios..Win2K may need to see that your PC supports APM. If it's on in the bios, but you are setup as "Standard PC", it will not be enabled in Win2K. Give that a try...

Ahhh...that happens when you disable it with Win2K already installed. You need to delete one...the second one should be fine to delete. That happened with me on my KK266-R...

Go to Add/Remove Hardware...

Then look at the manually pick from a list of hardware and install

NT Legacy ....

I forget what it is called cause I'm at work

After that, then you can enable APM in control panel, and you computer will power down when you shut down.

Yeah, try Mixxen's trick. Go to DeviceMan, click View>Show Hidden Devices, then scroll down to 'NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node', right-click on it, and click on Enable. Then go to Power Options in CP and check if APM is enabled.
