I only know ONE person who owns a Surface RT, and they bought it so their kid had something with Office on it. Man... Writing a term paper on it has to suck!

Microsoft gave away a huge number of Surface RT tablets to students. My nephew received one of them.

To be fair, Surface RT doesn't run regular desktop apps. So you're essentially strictly stuck to the apps in the Windows Store or just visiting websites. I can understand why a person wouldn't like it.

It's on Elementary as well. Whenever I watch the show it makes me want to buy a Surface. :|

When I'm writing, I want three things:

A big monitor, and
A real keyboard,
A decent Office suite like Microsoft Office or LibreOffice.

The Surface RT only comes with one of those standard.

I got my wife the refurbished 64gb RT that was on sale for $279.00 on Ebay. She is a beginning nursing student and it is perfect for her for what she needs. The included Office rt, web access and a great voice recorder to record lectures these three features provides all that she needs and wants, as a bonus the 8.1 upgrade and the touchscreen has made navigation and understanding much easier for her. So we're pretty happy with the purchase.
