I didn't realize how popular Surface tablets are

Ever since I fell down and hit myself on the head a few weeks ago, I've been watching a lot of primetime network TV dramas during my recovery. One thing that I noticed is that almost every show has their actors using Windows Surface tablets! I would thought that there would have been more Android or Apple tablets like I see at the airport or at schools, but nope... most of them are using shiny colorful Microsoft Surface tablets with their pretty Windows 8 Start screens gleaming in the sunlight.

Perhaps I was wrong about the Surface RT all along, and it really is catching on with the general populace. I mean, nobody knows the pulse of America better than Hollywood, right? I think that I'm going to go to my local Microsoft Store right now and get one along with the handy keyboard cover. I might even get the extended warranty and the Monster cables to go with it. Not doing so would be simply unamerican.

It's a nice little bit of hardware. It's a shame about the price and O/S.

One of my friends got a Pro 2, I've used it a couple times. Surface Pro 2 is seriously nice, having a tablet that actually has some compute behind it makes the tablet experience bearable. If it cost less I might get one =(

lol, nicely done, but not sure about where OP stands, product placement has always been in the industry, nothing new. On the other side MS tablets are actually a very good device, app support is weak but the devices are so powerful that you don't really need them.

Of course. It's the best tablet around isn't it? Anyone who doesn't have a Surface Pro 2 is a moron.

I actually think that the Surface Pro is pretty cool. That said, the Surface and Surface 2 will probably become doorstops a few years from now once Microsoft drops Windows RT support. It doesn't seem like any other hardware vendors are buying into the platform, and the app selection still sucks.

Don't think that they'll drop support that easily? Ask the people who bought Windows Mobile 6.5 phones, or the Kin for that matter.

The blatant product placement in TV shows drives me nuts, though! The first few episodes of Under The Dome were the just so blatant about it... Grr.

Surface or Surface Pro? (And yes, that was paid product placement.)

RT = only runs 5 apps. (Slight exaggeration :) )

Pro = runs real Windows programs. I have one from work for testing touch support and it's pretty nice. I borrowed it to try at home and with a HDMI to mini displayport cable works pretty well as a HTPC for Hulu free version. Tap the button for full screen, then tap anywhere on screen to pause or resume.

MS just isn't cool. No matter how hard they try, they've been out marketed by Apple. Their best bet is to tune the experience to businesses. Offer good central administration, and make it a "safe" device suitable for corporate use.

I haven't seen the product placement. I don't watch a lot of tv.

The Siri ads are brilliant though.

Microsoft is advertising its trainwreck of a tablet pretty hard. Here in NYC, there are 5 Apple stores, but no Microsoft stores. The closest one is in Danbury, Connecticut. Never heard of Danbury? Neither has anyone else.

No its not. At least not the Surface RT 1. Tegra 3 had a crappy GPU from the start, and the biggest feature of the SoC (the companion core) isn't used in Windows RT.

The Surface RT 2 is a nicer bit of hardware- a little better than my old netbook.

Are you actually butt hurt about your beloved not being the best?

There are plenty of apple tablets that are clearly a better value dollar for dollar than the surface 2. Why would any average tablet use pay $899 for a surface when there are comparable iOS tablets in the $300-$400 range?

You realize I'm just parroting arguments from previous threads about apple and android right?

that's why I'm buying a surface pro 2 this month. microsoft knows what I need, and for a measly $1500 I can have it!

There is not reason I or I could imagine anyone would want a surface RT/surface.
The Surface pro on the other hand does have some appeal for me.

But if they ditch the Surface MS will never regain consumer trust. At least I hope so. ^^

On topic, I haven't realized how popular Surface (Pro) are. One has yet been spotted by me in the wild.

I live about 15 minutes from Danbury. Even with my fake head trauma, I think that I would have problems forgetting where the Danbury Fair Mall is :)

It could be worse... They could have put it in the Waterbury Brass Mill Mall.

I only know ONE person who owns a Surface RT, and they bought it so their kid had something with Office on it. Man... Writing a term paper on it has to suck!
