I didn't realize how popular iPads were

So, exactly like I said, it wasn't at all underpowered at launch - it was bogged down by the later software updates. ;)

"horribly underpowered even at launch"? Nope. :whiste:
Like iPhone 4, it's an A4. Clocked slightly faster. The most significant limitation was 256MB RAM.

You aren't listening: iOS4 was impending for the iPad AT LAUNCH but was delayed because it didn't have the hardware required to handle it. IT WAS ALREADY LACKING AT LAUNCH!

You only get to claim that it wasn't because it got stuck on iOS3 longer specifically due to its lacking specifications. iOS4 launched for their other devices less than a month after the international iPad release. iOS4 with multitasking was expected for the iPad "launch window" no matter how you slice it.

Just because early units ran iOS3 well and the launch reviews judged that doesn't mean it wasn't horribly underpowered. Without multi-tasking the iPad would have been an abysmal failure and anyone knew not to consider it's launch functionality in a bubble.

I pad launched barely 60 days into 2010 with iOS4 promised in days and yet iOS4 didn't get iPad support until the year had barely 30 days remaining. It's well known why, but I want you to tell me why. :colbert:

Plus the original was at best mediocre at surfing even with the OS it shipped with.

Yeah, the original iPad was underpowered, even at launch.

A friend of mine bought the original iPad the day of the launch. I tried it, and decided to wait a generation. He also replaced his as soon as the iPad 2 came out.

the iPad 2 is still wildly popular. It does everything it needs to, just doesn't have Retina. Try to find one used. They still sell for almost retail.

Well, not any more, considering you can get a refurb iPad 4 for US$379 now.

I'm surprised actually. I thought Apple would sell the refurb iPad 4 for something like $429+.

Brand new in box, selling for less than retail (and that's not even counting the sales tax for retail purchases).

Used unit with perfect screen screen going for $280. And that's the Craigslist price, not the final sales price.

Your own links prove that the iPad 2 used doesn't go for anything close to retail now.

Holy shit...they were $499 at launch? I didn't think they were anywhere close to that.

My bad

The iPad 2 was $499 at launch, and it's $399 now. $399 is over 40% more than $280.

Mind you, if I could get ~CAD$300 for my iPad 2, I'd be tempted to sell and pick up an iPad Air... although I just bought that Logitech keyboard for it, and the wife doesn't complain about its speed yet.

Maybe it's for the best that I keep it. If I upgrade to the iPad Air, then the wife will likely start complaining about her iPhone 4. :p If we keep the iPad 2 another year, she'll be satisfied with the iPhone 4 another year too. ;)

This is why I jumped on the iPad 4 bandwagon late in the game. I read the speculation that the biggest difference in the new iPad would be that it would be drastically thinner/more lightweight and didn't want to be an early adopter of possibly flimsy tech.
That combined w/ wanting it for an extended trip I was taking made me pull the trigger.

I got lots of good use out of the iPad 1. Especially when traveling etc.. it got lots of use.

So saying it was a useless product is wrong. iPad 1 was a nice thing to have.

One of my friends works at an Apple Store. They sell unlocked Iphones 1000 at a time that people bring overseas for resale.

He's told me their sales numbers, no wonder apple is sitting on such a massive pile of cash.
