doesn't look like it's worth keeping tabs on honestly, PS3 graphics and gameplay that's reminiscent of every pre-pubescent's dream. i can't understand why the whole battle royale (i.e. last man/team standing) is so immensely popular still. didn't this one start as a DayZ mod clone and then people didn't care for it? there were a few of these that came out within a year or so of one another and the general consensus was that they all sucked.

it started as survival crafting and turned into god knows what.

Wish I had not purchased years ago.

If I remember correctly, this is the game that Rocket tried to sue over because they "released" their game to Steam before he could release DayZ standalone so they changed the name to H1Z1 (can't remember what it was first called but it was very close to DayZ) to avoid any legal nonsense.

Also, when it was first released, it wasn't received well because it was basically nothing but a straight clone of DayZ and people were already playing that mod instead.

Was it the WarZ, by any chance? LOL I heard that that was an absolute holocaust when "released." ...and also got pulled from Steam due to thousands of complaints.

Pretty sure this was released just so the devs could officially let it die. As I recall player numbers have dropped like a rock since PUBG and Fortnight came out. Now that it is "released" they have nothing that requires them to do anymore updates.

Calling them "devs" might be giving them a bit too much credit.

From just a little googling and forum diving it appears that all three games are simply plagued by hackers and cheaters anyway, not unlike any other modern online PC game though I suppose.

For me, PUBG is great because the pace allows for downtime. Most shooters are constant action all the god damn time and it's draining. The lulls between encounters in PUBG make the fights you do have much more intense. Getting 3 kills in 25 minutes of PUBG feels like more of an accomplishment than 20 kills in BF1. It's also great because the maps are gigantic and you essentially pick where you start which makes every match COMPLETELY different. Most of all, the tension I have experienced in pubg is much higher than in any game I've ever played. My heart starts pounding when I make it into the top 5 of a match and I became a panicky mess the handful of times I've made it to the last 2. At 75 hours in, I still haven't won a solo game but I feel like I'm always getting better and I won't get bored of this game, let alone the genre/mode/whatever, for a very long time.

I assume H1Z1 has similar draws since they licensed the PUBG guy's BR mode. Fortnite is very different though and I think it is popular for different reasons. Polished, quicker action, pleasant cartoony graphics, building stuff, free, lots of cosmetics to unlock.

Historically, I've never been a big multiplayer guy because I find it too stressful. Between rounds of a normal FPS I typically have to overcome the strong desire to just quit and do something else. For whatever reason I don't get that in pubg. I guess because the periods of stress are short and spread out over such a long period of time that even 4 bad games in a row doesn't deter me from playing more.
