We're all guilty of all of them. The best you can do is be conscious of them and try to be conscious of when they are affecting our decisions.

Cognitive distortions are another fun list to look at:

I had anxiety growing up & the personalization one was a big one for me. I struggled with all-or-nothing thinking for most of my life as well (still do, but I have tools to deal with it, like the Good/Better/Best approach, going around the mountain instead of over the mountain aka obstacle in your way, etc.).

I wish this stuff was more commonly taught & explained & integrated into society, because as an adult you have to deal with yourself doing these things & with other people doing these things, and sometimes it affects your job, your pay, your raises, your happiness/miserable levels in a relationship, etc. & it's such a huge list of stuff that it's just not always clear how to deal with it, or even know what you're dealing with or that this stuff even exists!

Agreed. All of this (and more) should be explored at very early ages.

I've had many jobs that were ruled by people under the influence of one or more cognitive biases & distortions. Naming things & clearly explaining them is a powerful tool to change behavior.

One guy I worked for had severe a severe "just world" bias - the belief that the world should be fair & people should be fair. The problem is that the world is gonna do what the world is gonna do - have earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. - and people have free agency, which means they're free to choose to act nice (or not). He would just lose it when he got cut off in traffic or something went south in the business or haywire on his computer. The world needed to be fair, by golly!

Yep. I'm sure we all know people who unknowingly suffer from multiple biases/distortions which can certainly have a synergistic effect and impair social functioning (work, relationships, etc). As you said, sometimes just naming it is the most important first step.

This should get posted in the P&N forum. Hell... the responses to the post by themselves should help prove about half of the biases on this list :)
