I didnt even know the extra boost could be this low

So I had a galaxy GC 670 that boosted 1175 out of the box. But it had really bad whine. So I sent it back and got my new one.. it only boosts 1136 out of the box. No coil whine now, but a loss of 40mhz performance out of the box.
I am really really disappointed.

Well, not every card boosts the same. It's dependent on various factors. I have two identical cards. EVGA GTX 670 FTW models. One boosts 30Mhz higher at the same overclock.

You can overclock it a bit, probably get over 1200 from it.

Sell it and buy a 7950. Be happy with what you get out of the box with that, since that is what you originally wanted.

I can push this to 1076 which gives me a boost of 1201. After that it crashes.
Oddly enough I could only push the other card to 1036 which also gave me 1201.

Okay.. it finally crashed.
So.. I guess I got a poor card.

Sounds like what my FTW flashed GTX 670 FTW LE boost clocks were. 1136mhz with a 63.1% ASIC score. Was stable but wouldn't go much over 1200mhz. My regular GTX 670FTW ran at 1174mhz stock boost.

Well.. I am thinking I will return it. It runs fine, but I am so disappointed in the boost clock. I hadn't heard of anyone getting this low until I got one.. most people get at least 1150.. I feel shafted.

These are my heaven scores:
New Card in Heaven:
FPS:
42.2
Score:
1063
Min FPS:
16.3
Max FPS:
92.1

Old Card:
FPS:
43.4
Score:
1093
Min FPS:
19.5
Max FPS:
95.6

Dude, they will both perform the same. Don't worry about it.

Every GTX 600 card boosts to a different speed. But, if the difference is that small you're looking at a .2 fps difference, it is negligible. Furthermore, you're likely able to overclock it yourself to make up for any perceived difference.

I don't see an issue to be frank... sounds like you're nitpicking too much. What if the next card boosts the same? Are you going to return that too? The difference is negligible.

Yep. You never know and it doesn't matter. Over clock it yourself and get even higher speed.

That's the silicon lottery. FYI, getting a 7950 may not do much better. My 7950 is only really "stable" up to 1100... it can bench higher but it's only good at around 1100. And even then I get artifacts every once in a while.

Sounds like you are nitpicking. A difference of 10c in your home could cost you that boost. I know that you can't tell a difference in 3fps. If you are shooting for benchmarks get a titan.

It doesn't overclock worth damn. I really lost the lottery. I can only OC to 1189 before it locks up.

Talk about being nit picky. I am half hoping you get a card that boost to an even lower number!

=).. I'm fully hoping that happens. RMA a card because it doesn't clock as high as you want? I would be pissed if it didn't have any headroom left but that is far from what you are expecting.

I doubt that the difference between those 2 clockspeeds is 3fps when 3 fps matters.

Xarick - You got a leakier chip, big deal. Boost your overclock and power target a little to make the difference instead of pursuing RMA fraud. The card is running faster than the 1085mhz boost clock right? It exceeds the specifications regardless, stop whining and start gaming. /thread

Dude you are f*cking ridiculous.

1201mhz is a 1% higher clock speed than 1189. In other words, there is no way in hell you could ever tell a difference when playing a game between the two cards. Seriously quit crying about such a small difference.

Okay.. I have been scolded.
I did use EVGA precision to boost it back up to 1175 and set a cool fan profile
It doesn't whine.. so I am really glad about that and below 60% the fan is difficult to hear.

But honestly... I get disappointed because I had one that boosted 1175, but bad coil whine caused me to send it in. I have had such bad luck with electronics I knew in the back of my mind I was going to get something worse.. and sure enough I did.

Anyway.. thanks for yelling.

1175 is good. That is 20% higher than Nvidia's minimum guaranteed boost. Clock the vram to 1700-1750mhz if it can go that high and you will have equal to or better than gtx680 performance.

I do want to say that this card is smoother than the one I returned and cooler at stock. The other one seemed to stutter a bit at odd times.

One thing I noticed about this card is that on the old card on GPUZ the vcore rating when the card was not boosting would bounce from 1.0370 to 1.0670 repeatedly and very fast.
This car stays very steady at 1.0670 until it boosts and then goes to 1.175.

I will say I don't like the boost. It means that a review reviews the card and then you buy the card and get less performance. For example.. this very card I currently have got reviewed by hardocp and theirs default boosted to 1175.. mine only default boosts to 1136. Which means I have to subtract 1 to 2 fps in every benchmark because I didn't get as good a card.

Seems off to me.
