Chianti.... 🙁

Nothing at all wrong with Chianti. Granted, not always a good pair with red meat, but nothing wrong with the wines.

Yeah, I was thinking it wasn't a good match for the steak, though I'm not a big fan in general. A nice Cab or Shriaz would be ideal with that peice of meat.

At $8.95 a bottle, it wouldn't have made a damn difference to my ignorant beer-loving palate. As long as it was red, it was perfect with the steak.

Just because your beer loving doesn't been you can't have very refined, descriminating taste. I know some beer drinkers that could be execlent wine tasters, but don't like the taste of wine. Beer "Tasting" is growing in popularity.

Meh...I've done pan-seared a couple times and it just doesn't compare to a flame-kissed ribeye on a grill IMO. Don't get me wrong, the cast-iron method tastes good, but I prefer mine to have that burnt fat taste and the grill marks and a good glass of beer or two or three.

And what's with all of the recipes on ATOT? Are we becoming the geek food network or something? Actually that probably wouldn't be a bad idea...

I was just joking and secretly mocking those wine snobs who think they know it all after watching Sideways... 🙁

You did everything right, except...

YOU'RE DRINKING RED WINE FROM A LOWBALL!!??!?!?!? THE HORROR!!!!!

If you don't have a set of Bordeaux/Burgundy glasses...at least use any wine glass with a stem!!!!

Chiantis are funny IMHO. There are some really smooth ones out there that don't have the typical "take my tongue and wrench it". I just don't know italian wines that well. Most all of the chiantis I've had are too bitter/sour.

A bit bloody/rare for my taste but it is looking good. Yummy.

I may need to buy a iron skillet and try to cook a steak or two.

medium is the most cooked i would go.. medium rare is my favorite.. although, if done correctly, a medium well steak can be damn tasty.. you have to make sure that you sear it at high heat, then stick it into a medium (350 or so) oven just for a few minutes and let it slowly cook so the juices can spread throughout the meat.. then make sure you let it rest

A ***VERY*** important step you forgot to do is to **LET THE STEAK REST**... give it at least 7 minutes under loosely covered foil... and your mouth will love you for it.

Eating real steak anything more than medium rare is a total waste.

QFT!

As previously posted, when my first steak came out well well done. It was still PRETTY DAMN good because this cast iron method locks in the juice inside- unlike your typical dry and tough well done steaks by grilling.

plus i like to make sure my steak is actually dead before i eat it. bloody steak is disgusting, the perfect steak are ones where its tenderly and softly red in the inside so that it melts in your mouth...

Looks pretty good although a bit rare for my taste. I need to try this soooo bad. No Kohl's around here, hopefully Wal-Mart has more than one chinsy pan to choose from.

Nice job, my favorite steak cooking method. It usually takes 2-3 mins in the oven to reach medium-rare.
You should try scallops with the steak. They're so easy to cook and taste great. One of my favorite seafood.

And that's the ONLY way to enjoy a good piece of meat. You can take a $20 steak and a $5 steak, cook 'em Well-Done and they'll taste identical. Like Charcoal.

A buddy of mine works at the Keg Steakhouse, and apparently the kitchen staff all groan when someone orders a real nice steak well-done. It's a waste of good meat.

are you trying to compete with my prime rib roast thread??

just kidding, steak look good but a bit too rare for me but hey im not the one chowing down on it so if that is what you like, enjoy it.

when you can afford it, go to a butcher and a prime cut of steak which is the next grade up from choice. i gurantee you will be in heaven.
