Well,
Lets just say that scandalous activity + laptops do not mix.
I have a Celeron M laptop, Toshiba M35x, which I like except I wish I had better battery life on it, so I thought of getting a Pentium M cpu for it, since I've heard it can handle them.
Just to be sure though, I wanted to try it, before I bought a cpu.
So in my Psych department at school, they have these laptops they use in classes. And after we are done, they get locked away in a cupboard, in a locked room. A while ago, I managed to file a key that would work with the cupboard lock. But doing it for the door to the room was not easily possible.
But, sometimes people leave the door to the room unlocked. Anyways, one day when someone left it unlocked I decided to take one of our schools gateway laptops with a pentium m cpu, 1.5 ghz (same speed as my cpu) and I decided to swap cpus to see if the Pentium M cpu would work in my Toshiba. and it did!!
But I didnt stop there. I got an evil thought, and tried putting the celeron cpu in the school computer, and turning it on (i know, a complete a$$hat move) anyways, it wouldnt turn on. and even when I put the old cpu back in, it wouldnt turn on either!! I tried everything, making sure everything was connected properly, and cleared the cmos by removing the battery for a half hour. still no dice.
my guess is probably the motherboard is shot, which is worth about $250
In the very least, I am going to compensate the schools IT department for the board, if it isnt under warranty anymore (maybe ill pay them through an anonymous donation).
But I'm trying to decide whether I should turn myself in, in regards to being the one responsible for breaking it (which occurred while I was trying to swap cpus, and i had to get through locked doors to get to the computer)
I would get fired from my on campus job at IT for sure. Probably kicked out of my class which uses that classroom, and maybe even kicked out of school. And also would have a criminal record if it went outside of the school.
The good news is, that if I don?t say anything the odds of me getting caught are slim, because I wiped off finger prints, and because there aren?t any cameras in the psych lab (just in the hall outside of it). And this happened a week ago already, and no one has noticed yet. (but they will tomorrow for sure, because it?s a lab day)
This sucks. all because I was too greedy and didnt stop while i was ahead.
