I did something bad and I'm worried that they'll catch me...

I went to the MS Visual.Net launch at the University of Maryland.

I went the first line and got me a bag of goodies (the guy looked at my Student ID card and checked off my name on a list of registered people). Then I walked away and put the bag in my backpack/case and came back. I just wandered around and waited -- thinking about whether to go to another line and getting another bag of goodies for my brother.

I waited and waited as I debated whether to do this or not. Finally, they started to let the line of people who did not registered go in. I then went to another line and pretended it was my first time and got another bag of goodies for my brother. The lady marked off my name on the list.

Now I'm feeling really guilty and worried that I'll be caught. If they check the lists and noticed my name was marked off on two lists, then they will know that I did that.

The ironic thing is that at the end, there was still some boxes of bags left and people started grabbing extra bags (it was almost a little mini riot as people started scrambling to get some) -- I saw one guy just ahead of me grab about 6 extra bags and left with a big grin. I was hoping to grab another bag for myself but he took them all

I feel guilty about being so greedy...

interesting, but you shouldn't feel bad, especially not if they had extra AND let unregistered people get some AND then let people just grab the EXTRAS

don't worry

I agree.
I don't think they'll care though.

I desperately wanted to grab some extras when I was at mine, too. They were so free with them, like they really didn't care.

Oh well, I got one, I shouldn't bitch.

Why can't MS come and give away free goodies at the

"U.S. News ranking: No.1 public, largely undergraduate university in the West ninth year in a row!
Also, best public, nondoctoral College of Engineering in the U.S.!"

...where I go!

I don't think that you are greedy simply because you write that you got the second bage for your brother. Were it for yourself, I might consider it greedy.

Still, what you did was not entirely honorable, if working some how to equalize the odds will make you feel better, it is not an inherently bad idea.

at worst they will call you up and ask tell you that you took two. Be like, oops, I thought we could. Then they may ask for one copy back, give it to 'em... but as the other guys here said, i doubt they give a f*ck.

The whole reason they give that stuff out is for promotional purposes. The fact that you got one for your brother also just makes their job that much easier. Heck, they would love it if you could give a bag to everybody you knew that was interested in it.

This is your God and conscience talking... Didn't know that they could exist as one entity huh? If you want to ease your guilt, you should send a copy of what you got there to DAWeinG.

**fine print: Doing any of the actions above may or may not ease your guilt but it's definitely worth a try.**

Wow, such sensitivity over your integrity and character! I'm impressed. I mean, sure you could be feeling bad for not doing what you could to help the poor, or perhaps guilty because you're not loving your family much, or maybe feeling guilty for judging minorities to harshly...but still, you stole a bag of mass manufactured goods from one of the largest corporate monopolies in the history of the world.

Reality check! ;)
