i did manual labor today

my mom called and said her pipes were clogged. i dug a bunch of holes to find a collapsed section of pipe. we have that old tar paper (?) piping from the 40's that isn't really piping, it's like layers and layers of.. something.

needless to say, i have a new appreciation for manual labor + shovel. fuck i'm tired.

I did some work the other day because my dad cut off our water going into his pond. My folks live next door and I put a 1" water pipe into the pond for filling it as needed, but also to relieve pressure on the entire system when we have below freezing temps. So after a 19 degree morning my dad turns off the pipe after the temp climbed to 35. Needless to say the water in the entire system was still below freezing, and after about an hour one of the spigots burst. OK so it only cost me about $5 to fis it, but I had to drive to town to get the stuff to fix it. I did do some explaining to my dad about physics and why he should leave the pipe into the pond open for a while after hard freezes like this.
