As the title says, I destroyed my iPhone.

Cracked the glass on my 3GS and just dropped it again and lost a chunk of glass. I don't want to get the iPhone 4, so where is the best place to get replacement glass?

I'm willing to do it myself, but will also consider having someone else do it.

Thanks for the input.

Edit: the phone is still fully functional.

Ok, so what do I need to properly replace the glass? Glass and digitizer?

anyone here ever done this themselves? One of the bosses at work has been walking around with a shattered 3GS for like 2 months now. It bugs me bad enough that I want to just fix the dang thing myself.

I replaced the digitizer on a 2G - that was very hard. And I've fixed the glass on a 3G and that was not quite as hard - although getting the screen off with the suction cup took a couple of tries. When I was done, the 2G iPhone worked, but looked a bit like someone had taken it apart and the 3G iPhone looked perfect.

I bought my parts on Ebay and then watched YouTube videos to learn how to do it.
Something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83XPLqxJhU0

On a rating of 1 to 10, where 1 is tying my shoes and 10 was my quantum mechanics oral exam in college, I rate the original 2G iPhone glass repair as an 8 and the 3G iPhone glass repair as a 6. :D On a more serious note, I don't think that I would attempt to repair another 2G again unless the person who owned it was just going to toss it or something... I was never very happy with how the case went back together and the fit of the black plastic thing on the back. But I'd fix a 3G again - that was fine... just took a while.

Yeah, the 2G has to be placed with the glass and digitizer.
The 3G and 3GS can be replaced with just the glass.
You should only need a replacement glass.
I heard the iphone 4 will need glass+digitizer.
If you don't want to do it yourself, look under Craigslist.
Should be $50-$80 I believe.

Apple will replace it for $199 under warranty.
You can get a kit from iFixit.com for about $60.
You can get almost the exact same thing from Amazon for about $20

You will need a little suction cup, a hairdryer, some isopropyl alcohol (to clean the new screen) and maybe an xacto knife. I have done and would say that if you have ever done extensive work on a laptop, then you can handle this.
