I despise FWD cars and get bored driving them, but RWD doesn?t seem practical due to the snow.

I was looking at AWD Subaru's but I don't know if they be fun to drive. How is the power split.. 50/50, or does it favor the front wheels more?

You want RWD, but good in snow, with limited budget? You have to cut corners somewhere, you know.

I can find a decent RWD car for that much.

Not like you really get to use a RWD for what it can do anyway

I bet that applies to 95% of the people here... they all just say RWD because it's the popular answer. I bet most just drive to work and on errands while stuck in traffic like the rest of us.

Yeah, I live in NY. We average 175-200" of snow each winter.

EDIT: I used to have a RWD Celica, so I know how to drive one fairly well.

Go buy a 1980s Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

My mom has an 86 SS. It's terribly overweight and slow.

Get a mid 90's Subaru Legacy or Impreza, that'll fit the bill nicely. I've driven a Forester in the snow and it handled it with no problems, the AWD system is very capable in incliment situations

I know an AWD Subaru would get around fine, but does it have the fun to drive part down?

Get the Miata. :) They balanced 50/50 so steering is predictable. Just point and shoot. Snow tires on a Miata can turn it into a winter beast, provided you haven't lowered the car and the snow isn't really deep. I'd go into the other merits of the Miata, but I don't want to sound like a salesman again. :p

EDIT: many people are selling their snow tire/wheel setups now that spring is here. You can probably score a set for under $200 if you're lucky.

i personally think open axles reguardless of drive are junk in the snow, one wheel gets on some slush and your stuck there.

Oh ok, I'm on the same page now. I thought you were referring to the LS model of some car.

135 HP, enough to be peppy, and if you get the Impreza RS you can be sure it handles nice too... not sure if the RS comes with more HP, I'll go look...

EDIT - yes, the RS has 165HP, might be more expensive than you're looking to spend.
