I DESPISE Apple

Of all the things that suck, and that I absolutely abhor, (regarding computers), the greatest has to be when I want to do something, but I have to accept an evil to do it. If I want to run my game at 1680x1050, I have to disable 6xAA, if I want to overclock my processor, I have to cut down the memory divider. After completing a new build, I am in the process of getting things put back in place. I ran across a .mov file for the first time today, and went to go download QT7. I get to Apple's website, and notice a vague reference to iTunes (an application I hate for its bloated memory hogging and piss poor performance), but I click through like the good monkey I am. The download starts, I receive and fire it up. Little did I realize that not only are the two installations (QT and iTunes) bundled, but they are MANDATORILY installed together. Notice, not ONCE did I type, highlight, copy, paste, or even THINK the word "iTunes", but now I have a living, breathing copy on my computer. I HAVE to (further) corrupt my clean registry and fragment my HDD just to get a simple media player with proprietary format installed. I have to run through the installation. I immediately go to the Start Menu to use iTunes' uninstaller to get the ball rolling downhill faster. Much to my surprise - NO UNINSTALLER. Go to the QT folder - yes uninstaller. Pattern? I think so. I'm not an Apple fan. I don't need a cutesy interface or round edges on my case and monitor to make me feel safe and warm. I need powerful hardware that works the way I want it to - not the way some zealot in Cupertino does. I'm sorry to take up forum space with this, but the amount of fury I feel about having a supposedly reputable company shove unwanted software down my throat is...exemplary. I DESPISE APPLE.

(Please enjoy laughing at me if I missed something easy - it's just as I said, however...really frustrating to have to swallow unwanted software on a clean install).

EDIT - Come to find out this thing takes up 100MB. For a media player. Great.

Quoted for truth, here's a link.

I'd feel dirty just downloading the QT or itunes install file, much less actually running them.

You're running Windows, you should be used to "the web browser is part of the operating system" and "the media player is part of the operating system too" bundling by now.

Oh, and do you want your home page set to MSN.com?

Have you tried MSN search yet? It's part of the operating system too!

You've already been assimilated, what's one more implant?

If you are a fellow despiser... stay clear of digg.com as it's just an apple fanboy propaganda machine these days

Before I started using digg.com I didn't care about apple either way, but its users on their as an obnoxious and fanatical bunch of morons as you could care to imagine

Huh? This is AT, most here use Firefox, VLC player, winamp/foobar, google, etc...

You mentioned that you're running Windows, so that's obviously not true.

Yet the same exact hardware is great in Macs?

You're hating Apple for the wrong reason. As somebody already pointed out, you can get quicktime without itunes. And I used to hate itunes like the rest of you, but I've found it to actually be pretty good if your music is organized and your id3 tags are all correct. It's easy to keep your ipod up to date as well.

Now the REAL reason to hate apple is for how they make you update ipod firmware. You plug in your ipod. "Firmware needs upgrade." Ah ok, no biggy. Hit the upgrade button. "Firmware upgrading." "Now plug your ipod into the AC power adapter to finish firmwar flash." What? I need to plug it into the AC power adapter? I don't have mine right now, lemme fool around with the ipod and reset it or something... What?! I can't?!? My ipod is a paperweight now?? Thanks apple for telling me BEFORE the firmware update that I would NEED an AC power adapter.

I don't see how they secure a number one spot in an mp3 player industry pulling crap like that. I wish I would have kept my creative zen. =(

I've never run into that problem with either of my iPods. In fact, my iPods didn't even come with AC adapters.

Mine didn't either, they update through the USB cable.

What I hate about itunes is the fact that there's no bloody updating system. You're forced to go to the website and redownload.

Surely apple could do better than that.

Mine came with one, but mine was 4th gen. I'm not sure if the 5th gen's have this problem or not. But it's certainly very real. Just google: ipod firmware ac, or something similar, and the complaints are endless.

Good luck getting this to fly at AT, Steve Jobs could take dumps in boxes and they'd sell readily at $5000 apiece, all the while being praised for innovation. Apple can do no wrong here.

The anti-Apple people seem to be the most preachy here.

What are you talking about, I never said that?

It's inferred because the two platforms use almost the exact same hardware, most of which is interchangeable.

Actually now that I read it again I thought it said software, sorry it was early and I had just gotten to work. And having read it again I'm even more confused, he's bitching about iTunes and QT and then throws a blurb in the middle about hardware for no apparent reason.

They somewhat have one for OSX. The updates are about half of the size as the windows ones, but im not sure if they a new install or just an update. But i do agree, windows needs an updater.

Never had the firmware update problem, but then again i stopped updating my 3G after the 4G's came out.

But on the other hand, i dont have any problems with the software and i actually like itunes much more than winamp.
