In the device manager, this display adapter shows up as S3 ViRGE-DX/GX PCI (375/385).
What card is this, and what drivers would best be used for winME?

Thx in advance for the help

BTW, i tried going to the savage homepage and a login is requird which i do not have.

Its an S3 ViRGE-DX/GX PCI 375 or 385! Just use the Windows plug and play drivers and it will be fine.

I was hoping someone would offer the retail name that this card was marketed with, which would lend to an easier matching for the proper drivers.

With regards to the windows pnp drivers, those are not opengl capable, if this card is opengl capable, i'd like to get that working, thus, i was searching for some better drivers, to see if this card can work for 3d.

The proper drivers come from the chip maker: S3. Don't waste your time trying to find branded drivers from the board maker. But, as said, the newest are prolly already included in Windows.

However, for future reference you can find out the manufacturer of most gear from its FCC ID sticker at, oddly enough, the FCC. :p

yep.

first thing i did was go to the savage website as i said, and they require an active account to get in to the support section, lol.

then i tried the windows pnp drivers: no opengl, so no go.

finally i got the login info for savage, installed thier drivers, and still no 3d/opengl, so i am assuming this card is a, for lack of a better description, a pos.

well, if anyone has one of these dinosaurs and has opengl working on it, in winME, let me know

heh, thx again

btw, this is in an old sys im fixing for someone, and thought it would be cool, but not necessary, to get the 3d use out of this card...i've been nvidia since the tnt1 and never tried out savage, i'm assuming they don't make cards anymore

*bump*

it'd be cool if this card could play atleast one 3d game, something as simple as say old school q2...

so if anyone has this card and can play opengl games on it...thx for the help in advance

That card is a 2D card. No OpenGL support. It does support D3D, but not very well at all. You can play Q2...in software mode :disgust:
