I cooked my PC, please help ...

My niece accidentally covered my PC with a sleeping bag.
It was left on overnight and I awoke to find the case extremely hot.
(It's an Athlon 850, 30GB, 256RAM)
It would't boot at first, then after 20 minutes cooling off, booted up
Win 98 fine. But the CD-RW drive wouldn't open more than one inch. I
bought a new CD-RW, fitted it and installed the software, but im
experiencing consistent hanging/ freeze ups/ lock ups during the burning process.
So far I haven't even been able to burn one single cd.
Can you tell me if it's possible I have done permanent damage in some
way when it overheated, and which components are the likeliest
candidates for the symtoms described? I read that overheating in general causes hanging, Im just worried that permanent damage has been done to either the processor, or maybe the RAM, or both.
Or maybe there could be another cause? Is there any way of testing
whether particular components are damaged?
I really appreciate any help with this,
Sincerely
:Q

Is the fan on the heatsink still spinning? Maybe the heatsink fan is burnt out and all you gotta do is replace the fan.

What about the power supply fan?

I'd look to make sure all your fans work first thing, maybe its simply overheating every time you turn it on. Maybe you need a new power supply. Those are the 2 things that I'm thinking right now but with this information you have posted a reasonable conclusion can not be drawn yet (basically, it could be just about anything)

Sfadtatplanetquake,
THe fans seem to be OK, the fan rates are shown as normal when I run VIV Hardware monitor.
Im wondering if RAM might be badly affected by heat?
What components would you suspect ???
Thanks
Jack.
