Poor poor fishy.

He was my Betta for the past 2 and a half years.

Changed his water last night.

Guess the water was a tad too hot.

Put him back in the tank, he spazzed out, he died.

Poor poor fishy.

You're supposed to change 1/2 the fishes water at atime (cause they get used to the chemicals and bacteria levels in the water they're in, ad you don't want to change it too much at once), and you're supposed to replace water w/ the same temp water as you removed.

You can always get a new one, they're like $5.

Bettas are pretty hardy, and they actually like being in water that is 80-90 degrees F. They don't however, like quick temperature changes. For future reference, let the water sit for awhile to equalize to room temperature. You also should only change some of the water, that way you won't throw him off too much.

Also, don't forget to use chlorine detox.

Yes, change half bi-weekly, unless you are trying to get them to breed. The you do a 90% water change daily for a week. It supposedly simulates a monsoon.

What about cleaning the bottom of the tank and such? Wouldnt you need to take all the water out to get to that part?

I don't keep it in one of those tiny hex tanks. He enjoyed being in a bigger tank much better.

Use a siphon to "vacuum" the bottom of the tank. You can then suck all the crap off the bottom and also drain out 1/2 the water at the same time.

Also consider that bettas' native turf is in rice paddies, so they are pretty cool about living in somewhat dirty water.
