I stopped into Best Buy today and wandered around for a bit. On display was a 50" Pioneer Elite plasma 1080p television running a Blueray demo disc. Holy freaking gorgeous, batman! I've seen Bluray before but not on a set that nice. Now I see what all the buzz is about! Time to start saving for a PS3 lol.

What TV do you have or are you planning to get?

HD-DVDs are supposed to look even better :D

The display makes a big difference though. Pioneer Elite plasmas are better than pretty much anything else out there in terms of image quality.

Hah I have a 27" CRT TV right now. Eventually I want to get a Panasonic PT-AE900U 720p projector (currently I use a 4:3 model between work and home). I was never particularly impressed by plasmas but that Pioneer model blew my socks off. Now I know what people are talking about when they say it's really that much better than normal DVDs...you just need a good display!

And actually I'm getting a Wii ;)

Hey genius, the Xbox is going to support 1080p as well now. It's been all over the board all day. Also, Blu-Ray is not likely to do as well as HD-DVD. JMHO, but I think there's a good chance I'm right on that one.

Edit: Oh yeah, and as MrChad said, HD-DVDs will look better too.

Yeah, I had seen Blueray on a smaller LCD before, maybe 32", and I wasn't impressed at all. The display definately makes a big difference!

"Hey genius"? Yeah Xbox will support 1080p but where's the Bluray player? Supposedly there's going to be an HD-DVD player available for the 360 but it's not there now...I was poking around the rest of the store and their current Bluray player is $999; the top end PS3 will be $599.

Oh well, I'll just have to be content with my 27" tube tv and future Wii :D

Pioneer Elite? Was this in a Magnolia? Pioneer never used to let BB (or any chain) sell their Elite line...

Meh... the format wars are over! Thus sayeth Warner Brothers. Not sure if I really believe that the impact of the triple format disc is what WB seems to think, but it will be nice to get WB movies all-in-one and possibly future-proof.

Grats on going down for yourself and seeing it in person instead of listening to pointless drivel and fanboys in the intarweb!
