Best ownage I have read about ever! Surprised people didn't aplaud as the crack addict left though.

How is an adult man using his superior size and weight to intimidate (threaten) a teenage girl "ownage"? Looks more like thuggery to me.

Oh we weren't aware that you've met gooddad before and know how big he is? If not, don't assume because you make yourself sound like an ass.

I am assuming he is bigger and stronger than the girl. It's a pretty safe assumption, given average weight and height for adult males versus teenage girls. I am also assuming he used that advantage in height/ weight to intimidate this girl. I don't call that ownage.

Well at least you admit that you made yourself sound like an ass :)

I think my assumptions are reasonable. I'm sure the OP will provide additional info if I am wrong about this. :)

you made many assumptions, and all of them were wrong. First off the girl was a little bigger than me. She was also probably around 21 or 22. I am 5'10, 162. She was right about the same height, and if I had to guess I would say closer to 175. I did not physically intimidate her at all. I never once called her out of name or implied any kind of physical threat. I am in retail management and I know what I can and cannot do legally.

And again, I did not stick up for them just because they were elderly. They were helpless. It would be like watching someone berate a guy in a wheelchair because he was going too slow.

You sir, have proved yourself an ignorant asshat. You are now an official member of the ATOT community.

Thank you and goodnight.

Uh, because she was out of line. What right does she have to verbally abuse Dennys staff to the point it makes a scene? If she had a valid reason to be upset at the service should've asked to speak to a manager.

It pisses me off when rude, inconsiderate, self-centered, aholes overreact and make a big scene because they're inconvenienced a little. It's like, "WTH are you and what makes you so special? Shut up, get back in line, and wait like the rest of us!".

That's why it's called an assumption and not a statement or claim. That doesn't qualify him as an asshat. Ignorant is not the right word for assumptions generated through common public knowledge.

Ignorant is the correct word in this case. Even after being told that he's making the wrong assumption, he still insists he's being "reasonable." That's why he should learn to ask questions before making an ass out of himself :)

The girl was getting mad because her take out order wasnt ready (the girl working was bagging up 3 of them all at once). The lady working the register told her it would be a second and said she would ring up the old ladies who had already ate. The girl that was waiting started flipping out cussing out the girl working the register. The girl did the right thing and rang up the grumpy one. Then one of the old ladies (they were at least 85) asked one of the other old ladies what was going on. The grumpy girl then started cussing out the old ladies. And I mean swearing up a storm.

The ladies looked like they were about to have a heart attack so I spoke up. I yelled at the grumpy chick. "you need to show some respect to the elderly!" The grumpy chick then started swearing at me telling me that the ladies were yelling at her. I told her that they hadn't said a word to her and that she needed to leave them alone. She said a few choice words to me and I got in her face. I told her to quiet down and watch her language. She cussed at me a few more times then I said. "Look, those ladies didnt say a word to you. I am though. If you want to yell at someone, yell at me. But you are just making yourself look stupid." Then she shut up and turned around. By this time everyone in the whole place had quieted down and was staring at me. Even the people working in the kitchen came out to watch. The grumpy chick got her food and left, staring at the floor the entire time. I apoligized to everyone for making a scene. As I was leaving 3 different people stopped me and told me I did the right thing. I really think the grumpy chick was either coked out or a crackhead...but she was way out of line.

why are people deserving of respect just because they are old?

Congratulations, you win most idiotic post of the night. You're a real asshole if you even need to ask that question.

I'm sorry, but the reasons why I should 'respect' the elderly (so often the most racist, sexist, homophobic among us) for no other reason than their age are not self-evident to me. Feel free to provide an explanation.

How about the elderly have paid their dues, contributed to society, and have many more years of experience than you.

aside from the last one, you actually have no proof of the first two. for all you know they could have leeched off of society their whole lives.

but respect in this context has a different meaning than say, respect for albert einstein... it mostly means you should understand to be nicer to them because they are less able to take care of themselves... don't yell at them because they will probably get all scared and confused... don't berate them for taking too long because they are just slow and there is nothing they can do about it... etc.

everyone deserves respect.
espeically the elderly.
thay can't stand up for themselves, have had long lives and should respected ...

So the elderly are entitled to (additional) respect, solely bcause of their age? I don't agree.

no, you missed the first part... they can't stand up for themselves. you are nice to the elderly sometimes because they fought in wars and whatnot, but also for the same reason you are nice to little children, blind people, etc. they are less able to take care of themselves.

Hey, I did call him an asshat. I think that is more fitting.

I can't stress enough that them being old was not the reason I piped up. The girl was out of line, the women were completely helpless, and there were at least 25 people within earshot when she was doing this. No one said anything to her. I was raised to treat others with respect. If someone is having trouble, you help them out. I didn't do this to make the girl feel bad, or to promote myself in any way. I did it because what was going on wasn't right, and no one else was going to fix it.

Maybe its because I grew up in a small town where we took care of each other.... maybe its because my mom is getting old and life is getting harder for her everyday....or maybe its because I actually have the balls to stand up to people when I know they are in the wrong. All I know is if I was in those ladies shoes, or if I was working behind the counter, I would be relieved that someone else took the heat for shutting the girl up.

And one last thing. To all of you saying that old people don't deserve respect just because they are old; wait until you are 85, on oxygen, and praying every night that you wake up in the morning or at least die a painless death. Then tell me that it wouldnt be nice for one person to make your day just a little easier.

She deserved it. No reason for her to berate staff and elderly people. It's like picking on the crippled, blind kid. It's not funny.

Anyways, I didn't say you stood up because they were old and I appreciate you standing up for other people, whether they are young or old.

My problem is with the fact that you are defending old people with a blind eye. Terrorists get old too. They also use a wheelchair, pee with the help of a nurse, etc. Does that mean they deserve my respect? What about people that were convicted of stealing, murder, etc. Do they deserve that same respect when they spend 50 years in prison and get out as a member of the elderly group? Sorry but not for me.

So you think the two old ladies were actually terrorists from some Islam state that were planning on suicide bombing the Dennys? Have you always been this stupid or is this something new?

why are people deserving of respect just because they are old?

Why do you draw breath?[/quote]

because millions of years of evolution have programmed me to do just that

exaggerated respect for the elderly is mere cultural convention, something that hopefully can be gotten rid of as we move forward :)

I respect everybody unless they prove to me that they don't deserve it in one way or another.

I see where you're coming from. I used to think highly of the elderly (i.e., with age came wisdom), but then realized how just as confused (i.e., still trying to find or never found themselves), immature, unrepentant or dissolute some were. However, I refuse to disrespect them unless they give me reasons to.

amen!
