i don't see how people can get excited about roster updates + a gimmick.

My NFL 2k5 still looks better, at least compared to the NCAA 2007 I just picked up.

I hate EA, but a monopoly is a monopoly.... not a whole lot of choice but to swallow and accept.

Is it really considered a monoploy just because consumers prefer Madden over every other football game that has tried to compete? There are always options that come out, and they always fail. Gameday was pretty good for a while, but it just couldnt compete.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

After the success enjoyed by NFL2k5, EA purchased exclusive rights to NFL gaming. When you look at NFL2k5 vs. Madden 2005, the 2k game blew madden away.

In retaliation for this move, 2k purchased the exclusive rights to all MLB games, and this year produced the worst game I have ever played in my life...MLB2k6.

I'm not sure. I have regular xbox. I've heard by many, including a few friends who have 360, that Madden is no where near as good on the 360 as it is on regular xbox.

Are they playing a demo?

That was last year's Madden. And it did suck. Even the EA devs admitted that it was missing many of the features that the Xbox/PS2 version had simply because they didn't have the time to put it in prior to release. They've added some of those features back this year and have added some completely new features.

Unfortunately, I've read that there is no fatigue during online play for Madden 07.

Oh, I didn't know that. So no other company can produce an NFL game anymore?

Actually, it was the NFL that went to EA about EA purchasing exclusive rights. The NFL originally turned down EA's offer but when 2K sports started putting NFL games out at $20, the NFL got worried about the perceived "devaluation" of their product.

Hell yes it's considered a monopoly. I can't "prefer" Madden over or under any other game because no one else is allowed to license the NFL properties, trademarks, names, etc.

I think there was a profound voice of opinion when 2k5 hit the shelves. It got HUGE marketshare, and not just because of the pricepoint. People will pay for a good football. Where other games failed, 2k5 succeeded. EA's response to that was an exclusive license at all costs.

that is halfway true. you have the impression that this years 360 version of madden will have the same features as it's counter xbox and ps2 verions, but that's not true. Madden 2007 will still not have the same features on the 360 as it does on the psx/xbox, it will have less.

atleast last time I read, thats what had been said.

rumor has it the 2K team is working on a non-licensed football game. and with people putting out their own rosters for college games that actually have the names of the players, i could see the same thing happening for this football game if it is a reality.

That's correct. I still think 2k5 is the best football game EVER produced, but I'll be buying Madden just because it's the only available option :( . I'll buy from whoever makes the best product, but exclusive license deals (whether they're by EA, 2k Sports, etc) KILL the competition that fosters good development. Look at the improvements coming to IE as a result of Firefox? Before Firefox came along, there was no motivation for Microsoft to improve IE, so it sat stale for the better part of a decade. The same will happen to football and baseball games due to these deals going down. It's just not right.

That's fine by me. I could care less about rosters, really. Probably because I could care less about the players...

I just want to play good football. The only reason I'm looking outside of 2k5 for football is because I've been playing it for several years now. I just need something fresh, but I have no complaints at all about that game. Great graphics + great gameplay + great customization. It was excellent.

oh I agree with you. but to the general consumer market, a game that has the NFL name on the box will sell hundreds more times than games that don't. which is why I am not sure if it's true or not, I just remember hearing about it but nothing more than hearing about it on ign or something.

The running game was light years ahead of Madden.

I have been a Madden Fanboi since 99' (I think the first year of the juke). That said, ESPN did make a better game than Madden in 05'. I owned both, prefereed Madden at first... but then picked up 2k5 at that 20 buck price. I was astonished at how much better the game really was. From the AI to the physics to the play control etc...

It was a sad day when I found otu they wouldn't be making a 2k6. Sucks for all football fans cause competition created a better product. Oh, the online league mode for 2k5 was freaking awesome too. Madden still hasn't caught onto the online league mode yet :(

Say what you want about EA, but they do try every year on both Madden and NCAA and put out pretty decent games.  With the exclusive license they could be doing a lot less than they do with no loss in sales.

Sorry, but they don't. I know that's just my opinion, but it's also just yours. Quite a few people feel that EA makes a less-than-valiant effort even when there IS competition.

Actually, many believe that's exactly what's happened. As others have stated, there were things in 2k5 that EA has yet to even attempt... and with no competition, there's no motivation to do so. An updated roster with a new shader here and there, and bam... new version. They wouldn't have survived with that mindset with a worthy competitor. They would have either changed their ways or been left behind. It's pretty amazing that 2k5 had the effect on the market that they did. Madden was such a dominent (read: incumbant) force, and 2k Sports *REALLY* shook things up and they did it at an amazing pricepoint.

Yeah, but I don't know what the details were. All I know is whenever EA is getting beat at their game, they just consume the competition. I lost count of how many dev studios they bought and subsequently ran into the ground.

I know it's posh to just bash EA, but I don't bash them for the sake of bashing them. I bash them because they truly are the finest example of what a huge, evil corporation can do to an industry.
