I'm would normally agree. My parents normally dont spend over $100 at xmas and its always a surprise. They wanted to do something different this year for a number of reasons.

It's all good.

Man, Xmas pretty much blows. First off, traffic around town gets horrible. People trying to shop and what not. Second, shopping during December is horrible becasue so many people are out there trying to buy gifts. Third, you can't get the stuff you need half the time because its sold out. Fourth, you have all these decorations up with nativity scenes and things like that (which I just don't care for...not that people shouldn't have them and be able to display...just personally don't care for it). Fifth, for a month after Xmas, stores are scrambling to restock so you have another month not being able to find items. There's plenty more but that is the general idea.
