i can't wait anymore...

tami

the online retailers had it in stock "briefly" -- b&h had it in stock yesterday for just a few hours. they operate their warehouse out of their storefront, so chances are, they don't have it in stock.

i want a solid place to physically visit in new york so i can buy this lens that i've been trying to get ahold of for 5 months. i know these photo stores are kind of sketchy, but if i show up and make myself known, i don't really care as long as the price is comparable to what i see featured on the web (and i can test it out and confirm that it's working).

does anyone know of a place that has it? adorama doesn't seem to have it listed on their website, and i truthfully don't know of other places ... and i'm not sure if i care that much anymore.

am i being stupid, or should i wait? as many of you know, i've been rather lazy updating pixelopera, and i want to start getting back in the game, but i've been using a broken 28-200 that kind of got me discouraged. i need to bring my spirits up -- and it's a late birthday present from the hubby.

They pop up periodically on fredmiranda.com. Also, check your local ritz/wolf. A store near me had a few in stock when I went the other day to waste a gift card.

goodluck getting the lens. They probably won't have it in stock.

I want to get a D200 just to use that lens as a walk around.

see post above.

blurredvision's lens was the only one posted in the last 4 months.

No, it wasn't. I've seen more than just his. I'd link if the site wasn't so slow right now.

I have this lens, and plan on using it for my alaska trip next week, and will probably sell it afterward, I paid above the MSRP from a local camera shop. let me know if you are interested. 😉

January? That was last week! 😛 I found it in stock at B&H, and in that small window of opportunity, I immediately bought it not knowing if I'd be able to keep it. Turns out I couldn't stomach the -$770 from my bank account with my wedding coming up, so I turned it around on eBay for a tidy profit. Oh man do I wish I could've kept it though :'(. I was able to pick up a used Sigma 105mm macro though with some of the extra money I gained.

Had I known you were looking for one, I would've cut you a deal since we're fellow ATOT'ers (and we have a connection, you and I.....I always remember those who I've argued with 😉).

tami is correct, there are a couple here and there, but it's mostly a blank slate over there. People must really be enjoying the lens.

yeah. well, it seemed like it was 4 months ago 😛

i would have so gone for it. my timing sucks. 🙁

richard: depends how much you're selling for. my ultimate goal is to have one in my hands by this sunday.

So what's so great about this lens, anyway? Couldn't you get a Tamron or a Sigma that's almost as good for half the cost?

It's the range of focal length combined with some sharp glass and VR that has gotten everyone wanting this lens. One thing that I've learned in my short amount of time reading up on photography is that photographers absolutely do not care to spend money. If a new lens comes out, the first question is how good is it, then the question of price.

F3.5 to 5.6 doesn't seem all that special to me.

Its just a great all around lens... For me, it replaced my kit 18-70 and sigma 70-300... Was an absolute JOY to have with my during my treks down in Costa Rica last month....

No need for my tripod, no need for my multitude of lenses (other than my 50mm 1.8 in my pocket).

my most expensive lens is about $1400. it's a good thing i didn't buy it.

i actually am planning on selling it now.

but for the price, it's worth it. 😱

Our Best Buy has at least one of these in stock. How that works, I don't know. ~$899 according to their sticker though. :Q

that crossed my mind too.. but considering i wouldn't be able to afford the lens... and the whole having a 2nd nikon body that doesn't exactly work w/ my canon class... well.. the thought fell through 😛
