I have latop with XP pro SP1 and it wont let me view .pcx files

I updated all the video drivers and also tried opening the program with the windows default pic viewer. I even also tried using paint and it wont work. What is strange is that i have another XP pro desktop and that one works fine.

The laptop comes with a 64MB Quaddrono vid card/

Is the .pcx a zsoft paintbrush file? I've never had to work on such a file, but if you have paintshop pro you'd be able to view it (or ACDSee). When you try to open the file, does it ask you what application you want to open it with? The problem may lie in your file associations, I don't know where this would be in XP. In win98 you'd double click 'my computer' then 'view - folder options - file types' and then try to find pcx.

I saved a jpg in the pcx format. Then I double clicked the new file, and it opened in "Imaging for Windows Preview by Kodak" -- apparently a default installed for win98se.

Download Irfan View, it can view just about any graphics file and is very fast besides. Top rated and free!
