My family uses the wishlist technique of handling christmas gift giving.

This year my list is empty. I cannot think of anything I want.

What a weird feeling...

Did I transcend into some zen state where material possession have no meaning to me? Or maybe this is a symptom of some sort of mental illness I'm developing...

How could someone not want anything for xmas?

My 10 year old said the same when I asked. Maybe it's a virus.

Last night, he did say he wanted some boxer shorts.

It's perfectly normal when you are an adult and can afford anything you want. Your needs have moved from material(I want that N64!) to emotional(I want to feel important and loved).

I can't think of a single person who would be putting an N64 on their xmas list for the last...6 years.

I keep making the suggestion that instead of buying gifts for our adult family members (in-laws, parents, brothers/sisters, etc...), we just donate money to charity, but noone ever seems to go for it.

I already have everything I want, and find buying gifts for adults to be a waste of money/time.

Not thinking of anything is crazy talk. I could come up with a list at any given time. My son went and saw Santa Claus last night and rattled off about 20 things he wanted like he had been memorizing a list for the last year.

If anything you could always ask for pudding and tube socks. Those are two items you really can't have enough of. Without both you would be hosed. Have you ever tried a tube sock without pudding? Not fun. Not fun at all.

Everyone on my side of the family is pretty well off, so it's hard to shop for my parents/sister/myself/wife since if anyone wants something, they just go and buy it. Generally presents on my side of the family are bottles of booze, high end restaurant gift cards, etc..., which is at least stuff that is usable even if it isn't something we need.

The worst is when you get stuff you don't have any need for and can't even find a use for.

If it were up to me I would just take $1000 and donate it to charity and forget about buying anyone presents.

I have the same problem, I don't really want or need anything.

I told my girlfriend to put the money towards her CC bill, but she won't...

Nah, it's not that uncommon. I don't want/buy much stuff, so when I do actually want something, I tend to just go buy it.

I like gifts that show that make me laugh and are cheap (MC Hammer "Can't Touch This" T-Shirt, TMNT pillowcase).

Yeah, I have this problem every year now. I try to hint to my mom that I'm 30 years old and don't really need a ton of gifts anymore, but if I don't tell her anything she ends up buying me a ton of tools that I already have and were most likely given to me by her last Christmas.

Usually I just don't buy any clothes for myself and then ask for those.

Hehe, in situations like this, I always think of the little toys I never buy for myself...

This year, it's guitar pedal of some sort :) Hopefully a good Phaser or Flanger...

Well, we are not allowed to have any games, movies, music etc. in my family gift giving so I will be getting a cast iron skillet.
