I can't stand the news whenever a big celebrity dies

Why is it that the news stations put so much hype into this? I have never been a big fan but I could at least tolerate some of the news stations in the morning. But now? It's 24/7 Jackson coverage. He was influential and may have made a few headlines with molestation cases - I get it. I think we all knew that. But this is ridiculous. This is pretty much what CNN did this morning:
Did a segment on Michael's kids
"Something happened in Honduras"
"A plane did something bad in the Indian ocean"
"American drops are leaving Iraq" (<-I would think this would be a major fucking milestone and deserved more than a passing comment!)
" NEW DETAILS SURFACED ABOUT MICHAEL"S WILL! Let's go live to our corespondent in whothefuckcaresville. What's going on there?"
-We have new details that we will be revealing soon

I even tried other channels and they had the SAME FUCKING STORIES!

Where are the stories about whats happening in Honduras? How is the withdrawal going in Iraq? Are there still riots going on in Iran? Why are these not important stories? I would think these events would have longer lasting implications than a Pop singer's death. With 24/7 news coverage why is the coverage so shitty? Do they not have enough time to cover iportant events?

its aweful. i was at work and on the radio: michael jackson week, michael jackson song every 5 minutes and call in quizzes about his life
i then past a colleague chatting "MJ was my idol as a child...blablabla so sad"
go outside to grab some food, and the first people I pass "michael jackson"

Yea i hate the news here, everytime they actually report something worthwhile they always say like stay tuned, stay tuned. Then 2 hours later they finally report it. Its just there way of making you continue to watch there channel so there ratings will go up. I am also sick of the new when they talk about some celebrity who died also. I think 1-2 days is enough to report about it but a whole week or 2 gets rather old. Wow someone died happens every day

Last Friday's NBC Evening news consisted of 3-4 minutes of actual news, 7 minutes of commercials and about 20 minutes of Michael Jackson crap.

Pretty much. They arent making news or making bad news more interesting.
Americans really are more concerned with celebrities than with world events.

I think its a government conspiracy to keep us all dumb & ignorant so we are easier to control.
