Hi I have two EVGA Superoverclock GTX 980s. For some reason when I put the SLI cable on the cards my desktop won't boot. I'm using a Asus SLI connector. Does the connector have to be from EVGA? Thanks.

I bought two cards because I have a 4k monitor and want to run everything maxed out if possible. Thanks for any advice.

Which motherboard are you putting the two cards in? Have you followed the owner's manual for correct slot usage to support 2-way SLI? Have you tested both cards individually?

The bridge should be okay, and it shouldn't matter which of the two edge pairs you mount it on.

If SLI is enabled and your bridge is bad or defective, then it might cause your monitor to not display correctly..

So it might be that the SLI bridge you are using is bad.
